Music that isn't as good without visual accompaniment
This hits me the most with video game music. Vortal Combat might be the most bad ass thing I've ever heard while playing HL2 Episode 2, but later on it just seems kinda lame and repetitive, and I feel similarly about Sector Sweep. Philistine was the high point of an otherwise mediocre game while playing No More Heroes 2, but listening to it now it just seems grating and annoying.
The same thing happens with Homestuck music. (Huge spoilers) Megalovania gives me chills when I watch the accompanying video, but I can't even stand to listen to its discordant guitar at other times.
I suppose this could have something to do with video game/film/webcomic music not really appealing to my musical tastes, but since I don't have any of those "VGM isn't music" biases I wonder why VGM rarely resonates with me.
Related: it wasn't until I was 11ish that I even realised that most film soundtracks actually play during films. I just didn't even notice them during the film.
If anyone deigns to comment on this, I ask that you not actually any youtube videos, as that tends to destroy any discussion.
