Don't you weeaboos have anything better to do?

Shit, my mom's gonna buy me a box set on the second of May. Perhaps I should get the Blu-Ray to this series...?

    Pretty much.

I was bashing it once it was announced, mostly because Aki Toyosaki is like 25% of my reason for liking that show so much.

But not really, since I don't bash dubs.

But I did say I'd never watch it, and I don't intend to break that... promise?
  • Yui's English voice is more, shall I say, tolerable. Emphasis on the comparative.
  • But...but...Cristina Vee!

It can't be bad. IT CAN'T BE BAD
  • Oh, speaking of K-On!...

    Not pictured: Sawako-sensei as Rarity.

^^^ Yeah, it's odd. Technically the English voice was less grating, but I don't mind her Japanese voice and find it to be better because I find the Japanese language to be inherently superior in its sound, and better suited to being cutesy.

I never had any problem with Yui's Japanese voice...
  • Well, part of it is because I hate her either way.
  • edited 2011-04-26 20:46:34
BUT SHE'S THE BESTEST CHARACTER IN K-ON! EVER!

    >:

I love Yui. I dunno. It's sort of irrational, but I can't hate characters like that.

It's also part of why I liked Madoka (the character specifically; I also love the show); she was so fucking nice and adorable even though she was mostly useless.
  • "...because I find the Japanese language to be inherently superior in its sound, and better suited to being cutesy."

I'd contest this. English and Japanese have different standards for being cute. English girls are just going to be naturally deeper than Japanese girls, and both can sound cute.
  • Yui is at the very top of my list of fictional characters I wish were real so I could hug them.
  • edited 2011-04-26 20:49:09
^^^ Also Madoka was less useless than Kyoko or Sayaka, so... yeah.

EDIT: Doublepost because I expected to be ninja'd.

@ Chuggles: A fair assertion. Perhaps it's the speakers that I meant. They're much more predisposed, at least in anime, to being cutesy, and I can't imagine an English-voiced character topping that.

^^ She's very close to the top of mine. It's also a plus because I could imagine her not being remotely creeped out at the idea of a stranger hugging her.

    ^ She still was.
  • "I find the Japanese language to be inherently superior in its sound"

    "inherently"

    Shirley, you can't be serious.
  • It is poetic compared the harshness of English.

But Germanic languages were never noted for softness.

@ Gelzo: Note the "I find", or just "I". It's entirely my opinion, as evidenced by the amount of people who find so many other languages that aren't their own to be funny-sounding.

But when you say "inherently" it really sounds like you're saying all examples of Japanese speech sound superior to all examples of English speech.

This probably isn't the case unless your standard for how good something is depends primarily on how Japanese it is.
  • edited 2011-04-26 20:58:25
My opinion of Japanese is lowered by the persistent presence of badly mangled English. Sure, Anglophones use French loanwords constantly, but at least they aren't as terribly pronounced. Of course, native language bias is in effect.
  • You get used to it.

@ Gelzo: For the most part, I do find the Japanese language to be consistently superior to the English languages. As long as Engrish is not involved. I hate that guy. >_>

@ Abyss: That's one of two things I don't like about Japanese. The other is that its alphabet makes me want to cry. I have a hard enough time writing in English.

@ Chuggles: SAMESIES! Preferably also including the characters they're dressed as. Oh wait, they're like fourteen, aren't they (Madoka characters I mean)?

    . . . Eh. I ain't concerned.

@Worm: Personally, I find it charming. And I'm sure the loanwords English uses have mutated quite a bit as well.

^Consistently superior is different from inherently superior. I'll concede that the former is reasonable enough of an opinion.

^^^^ Clearly, they're all lesbians, so it's no use saying that, Chuggles.

The same goes for the characters they're dressed as, so... sorry.  Except maybe Mami.  But she probably is too.

And yeah, Madoka characters are 14-ish.  K-On! characters are 15-18.

Why wouldn't Mami be as much of a lesbian, going by that logic, as any of the others? And Sayaka definitely isn't.

    @ Gelzo: Fair enough.
