The NDP is doing well in the Quebec polls

According to some polls, better than the Bloc Quebecois.

What the hell is going on? I don't really know much about the political climate of Quebec, but this has to be the strangest possible thing. I mean, they went from having a tiny percentage of support 10 years ago to something like 25% now. What is the Bloc doing to drive people away?

I know the figures are in no way exact, but these numbers still seem incredible to me.

  • I wish I had any meaningful understanding of Canadian politics right now.

The preceding statement was a sneering dismissal of Egyptian Socialism.

  • I could not give any less of shit about US politics, considering that it'll always be run by 2 parties that are identical.

On the other hand, Canada is exactly the same.
  • I just think it's funny that I see so little discussion about politics in other countries, and even the people in those countries often know more about what's going on in the U.S.

In the USA, we have two major right-of-centre parties moving slowly apart as one falls off into the deep end accompanied by multiple tiny parties that don't matter to anyone; in Canada, you have two major right-of-centre parties moving closer together accompanied by two minor left-of-centre parties that kind of matter to somebody.

    Differences!
  • I dunno, I'd say the Liberals are left of centre, if only barely, and the Conservatives are more left than the Republicans.

The official Republican platform is currently so far to the right on so many issues that comparing anyone to them (besides the Australian Liberal Party, who are even worse) is unfair to the one being compared.

Economically, most parties which are traditionally identified as left-of-centre in Western democracies are actually further to the right on economic and security issues than many conservative parties were in the early '70s, including the Liberals in Canada. Unlike the US, however, Canada has an inherently social-democratic governmental system, hence softening the effects of the rightward swing in global politics...

That, and, as I said, our right-wing is really right-wing.
