My story concepts always look crappy on paper.

I just wrote out the background to my Touhou fanfic for critique on Doujinstyle.

...Wow, this thing looks like shit. It sounded really awesome in my head, because it was fleshed out really well. But it would take like 30 pages to explain it all.

And I used A Nazi By Any Other Name....I really want to keep the use of that trope in, though.

    Your avie is cute.

Also, yeah, most of the time when you imagine an anime-style idea in your head, it loses a LOT of it's content when being transferred to writing. You aren't brainstorming too many visual things to add, are you?

    It's more how I didn't explain enough.

But you're right. It's something that would be much better as a manga, which is why I want to eventually turn it into a webcomic.

And the A Nazi By Any Other Name is a little strong. Let's just say that "Aryan" is an actual in-story word that is used to denote people in it (in extremely deragoatory ways, though).

And thanks for liking my avie~

...why would there be anyone that could be described as "Aryan" in a Touhou fanfic?  Other than like, Marisa and Alice.  Maybe.

Touhou characters are for the most part Japanese-ish (well, they're mostly yōkai and whatnot, but presumably they'd look more like a Japanese person than they would a European person).

Make up a Nazi Touhou from Germsokyo, so outer-country/universe Fanhous can join in the fray.
  • It refers to something different--in this case, a person who has nothing but one sole species in their lineage. They are specially "pure", so they are called Aryans.

The Touhou girls are the only remaining Aryans alive....

Axis of Marching and Domination: Hitler invades Gensokyo

    Needs to be done.

Also, despite the name and clothes, Marisa is Japanese Gensokyan.
  • Read the concept I posted.

The Youkai-Human Alliance are basically Nazis.

    Godwin's Law?
  • It's not an internet discussion, so no.

Also, given that Aryan is a Sanskrit word meaning noble, the point was to refer to how they were "noble" and above others. It's an eastern word too, so it makes even more sense that the ultra-nationalist YHA would use it.
  • I just read it. I thought they resembled early XX century Japan moreso (beyond being Japanese, I mean).
  • Yeah, they were based on Imperialist Japan and the Nazis.

So basically, the Touhou girls are related to Japanese Nazis. Yeah, that's not something you want to be proud of....
  • I've been trying to write a fanfic retelling of Morrowind, but I'm still having trouble making some of its concepts work.

    Tropes are not Bad.

It doesn't matter WHAT the premise of the story is, WHAT the tropes are, or WHAT its title is.

What matters the most is the style and skill with which it is written. If you can organize your writing in a golden way, then you can make anything gold.

The only reason to worry about a trope you used, is if it is something like "so bad it's horrible". Then again, that's not so much a trope as it is a statement.
