Day of Silence

When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Today is the National Day of Silence. The gist of it is that, in order to protest the harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ kids across the nation, there will be silence. This is done to show our solidarity with them, who have to be "silent" about their sexual orientation lest they get bullied.

Now, in theory, this is an absolutely fantastic idea. Discrimination against these minorities is widespread, and those who need help could use our support.

The problem comes when you begin to think about it too hard. You see, being silent when someone is being bullied is never a good thing. Even if you don't actively support discrimination, innocent bystander syndrome renders the majority of the population useless when those in need actually require our help. If we were really wishing to support LGBTQ kids, instead of remaining silent the entire day, symbolic a gesture as it may be, shouldn't we all be helping by identifying ourselves as supporters and actually speaking for LGBTQ rights?

I know there are more logical holes in my story than Bonnie and Clyde, but it's been bothering me.

tldr; Instead of keeping silent to support LGBTQ people, we should be speaking out in support of them.
