I don't see why Earthbound would need a remake.  The original is more than good enough.  If it was going to get a remake, then that would be a waste of resources that could be spent on either another sequel or a new IP or whatever.

Earthbound isn't getting a remake because of legal issues.  This has been all but explicitly confirmed.

But we never got to play it here in Europe!  I was really hoping for a GBA or DS port.

Dammit.  See, this is why I'm cool with Nintendo remaking stuff.  It's good for people who missed out the first time around.

Well, there was a GBA port of both Earthbound and the original Mother, aptly titled Mother 1 + 2. One problem: it was only released in Japan.
