If I hit on a woman and she doesn't like it, she can turn her back on me or say anything snarky she wants. If I'm obnoxious enough, she might slap me or kick me in the crotch. If you want true equality, prepare to deal with that. :-P

P.S.: The term "homophobia" is so discriminatory. Who's afraid?
  • But you never had any to begin with.
    Who's afraid?

People who think they can "catch the gay"?
  • Master Guardian of the Passive Voice

I have never heard the phrase "catch the gay". :-|

  • Because you never know what you might see.
    >P.S.: The term "homophobia" is so discriminatory. Who's afraid?

I thought this for a while (well, not that it's discriminatory, just stupid), but lately I'm not so sure.  After all, it was clearly coined with reference to "xenophobia" which can be used to denote simple dislike.  The basic point is that it's prejudice against homosexuals, whether it's out of fear or hatred.

Poor Xenophon. His boss is dead; he just wants to get home now. :-(
  • Because you never know what you might see.
I think the moral of this story is that the English language cares not for anybody's feelings.

some people don't like me hitting on them.

Therefore, all straight people are homophobic.

  • Wouldn't "homophobic" mean that you're afraid of sameness?
  • Because you never know what you might see.
Arguably, but by that logic, "laughable" should mean "capable of laughing", and "television" ought to mean the same thing as "telescope".

    Curse you, language and expression.

You're not the first person to point that out.

Shit, I just mean, Nyan shouldn't be speechless that a schwulmann hit on him. Come on.

I never got straight or gay people. There's a whole world out there...and you just ignore half of it? Screw that, you should spread the love to both genders!
  • edited 2011-04-14 09:24:03
Because you never know what you might see.
Why are you assuming that Nyarly was speechless because he's homophobic, rather than a multitude of other possible reasons (Nyarly hates men, Nyarly is racist, Nyarly is ageist, Nyarly doesn't hate men/people of your ethnicity/people of your age group but doesn't like being hit on by them, Nyarly doesn't like you personally, Nyarly doesn't like being hit on over the Internet, etc.)?

As to spreading the love to both genders... believe me, I'd love to be bisexual, but for the most part, guys just don't do it for me.  I'm not convinced you understand how this works.
  • Because:

    1. I had just admitted to hitting on him.

    2. He, as far as I know, is a honest-to-god hetersexual male

    3. There would be no other reason for him to just post "..." in tye context of the thread.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
Did you ignore my parenthetical statement?  There are billions of reasons why he might have done that.  Maybe you just came on too strong.  Maybe he really despises create.swf avatars.  It could be anything.
  • But you never had any to begin with.
    ...

^ If I hit on a woman on the internet, whom I knew wasn't interested in men, then receiving an ellipses would actually be a mild response methinks. :-)
  • Because you never know what you might see.
Yeah, I agree with the Baron.

Personal theory: Nyarly just hates being given cutesy faux-Japanese nicknames. :P

(Now we need Nyarly to come in here and say something along the lines of "Actually, I just really hate fags".)
  • I don't mean hating gay people.

What this thread is about how straight men tend to be utterly disgusted at the prospect of a gay/bi man hitting on them.

As for the hypothetical reasons you mentioned. We are reasoning creatures. You can obviously rule out nonsensical reasons.

"Face it, I'm hitting on you, deal with it instead of flipping out."

Frankly, I find getting hit on when I'm not interested (which is nearly all the time) very irritating. You're rather selfish for thinking that someone should just be okay with you looking at them as a lust object.

(aside: We should really impose a two-hour limit on users making IJBM's)

Because you never know what you might see.
I don't see what's so nonsensical about any of the things I suggested (except maybe the create.swf thing, but that was a joke).

Really, you'd be better off just asking the guy what he meant.

^^^ It'd probably be easier for you to understand if you were homosexual instead of bisexual. In the meantime, imagine that a gorilla who new sign language made a sexual offer to you.
  • There's a reason catcalling is regarded as socially inacceptable, and that's in the case of heterosexual females.
  • that Nyarly thing earlier? That's what this is about? Good grief.

Because you never know what you might see.
    ^^^ XD

^ Yup, in that other thread here.
  • Master Guardian of the Passive Voice
What other thread? Someone mentioned anime. Ugh... I think I'm an animephobe.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
  • edited 2011-04-14 09:52:44
...He was flipping out over that? Ugh.
  • Guys, like most things, this was something that had bugged me for a while, the Nya thing just drove me to finally make a thread.
  • Like I said, anyone would be creeped out by you hitting on them when they're not interested, not just heterosexual males.
