When a position I agree with...

...is defended/expressed by means I don't approve of, like logical fallacies or insufferable smugness.

It puts me in an awkward position as far as agreeing/disagreeing with it said position, and whether or not to call attention to the bad parts and end up looking like I'm against the position itself.

Gee, strawmanning much? Either way, I usually don't give a shit if some smug, hypocritical fallacy factory is defending something I believe in.

Because I don't really give a shit about something like that, I just want to get my point across by any means necessary.

Because this thread is about me.
  • Call them out on it. If you think somebody shouldn't be a jerk, that person being right shouldn't change it. Also, being right on the internet for the wrong reasons is just as bad as being wrong on the internet.
  • ptitles suck and nobody should ever link to them.  Because then I actually have to click the link to know what you're talking about.

Anyway, just try not to get into the habit of arguing against your own position because you don't like the way someone's arguing it.  Call them out on it, but don't switch your position out of spite, you know?

Just try to rephrase your position to distance itself from theirs. Or you could always say something like "Don't listen to him, he's Andy Schafly  Mel Gibson Timothy McVeigh Kanye West Tom Cruise my local neighborhood hobo a moron."
