Camera angles are great, the game is fun... So tell me: How did a 3D Sonic fan game manage to do a better job than the Sonic Team? I enjoy the official Sonic games, but come on, how does a fan game manage to do just as good if not better (Especially compared to Secret Rings. Never played 2006, but I plan to only have one unenjoyable Sonic game on my list (Secret. Goddamn. Rings)) And if SRB2 ISN'T enjoyable, then are my standards that bad?

Wait. Am I still on the official SEGA forums?

(That's not an insult on Icalasari. I'm just learning that the disappointment is more universal than I thought.)

  • Fans have more time on their hands than people working for money.

^^ Disappoint of 2006, or something else?

    ^ Makes sense

^ Sonic 2006 is a special case. I was just talking about Sonic 4 Episode 1, because I "came back" to the franchise because of it. :)
  • Strike Witches STG (a fan game) appears to be roughly a million times better than the official Strike Witches shmup, so it's just something that happens from time to time.

Some big budget games just end up sucking, and some fan games just end up being good.  It's just how it is.  Especially when you're dealing with a huge franchise where there's not much incentive to make high-quality games in the first place.

@Abyss: Funny, I kinda find that to be the opposite, unless you mean timeframe for a release. If we're going for hours put in weekly, it tends to be less, from what I've seen.

    Sonic Colors. That is all.
  • There's also the fact that professionally-developed games have larger teams than indie projects, so the number of man-hours is almost certainly far higher.  Plus they generally have a lot more resources available to them, so... yeah.  I don't think that's a very good reason, Abyss Worm.

Sonic Robo Blast 2 has been in development since 1998.

In the meantime, Sega has made Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, remakes of those games, Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic 2006, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic and the Black Knight and Sonic Colors. , and this doesn't include the games made by Dimps. 13 years, 7 game consoles.

Most companies would kill to have 13 years to build and polish a game. Hell, *I* would.

^ So Duke Nukem should be perfectly happy then :3
  • The current Unreal 2 incarnation of DNF isn't more than 5-6 years old.

^... I was making a joke about the development hell it was in. I realize that it wasn't actually being worked on solidly during that whole time
  • I was about 60-70% sure you were joking, so I decided to play it safe.

Three cheers for Sonic Colors. Here's hoping for a playable Tails again.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Don't worry, it'll be Sonic Colors DLC.

^ On the Wii? And this late in the game? I'd eat my hat. :)
