I have a word processor addiction

edited 2011-04-11 23:51:10 in General
I have Microsoft Word 2010, AbiWord 2.8.6, and LibreOffice Writer 3.3 all installed on my laptop.

And I have nothing to write.

You should get openoffice to add to your collection too :P

    LibreOffice is OpenOffice.

Speaking of, I got it along with Microsoft Office 2010 Starter. At least I got two things to write.
  • Yeah, I figured having OpenOffice and LibreOffice would be too redundant even for Mr. I-Must-Have-Every-Word-Processor-I-Can-Get-My-Hands-On.
  • I have Office 2007 Professional Academic Edition.

    • Word <3
    • Excel <3
    • Powerpoint <3
    • Outlook <3
    • OneNote Meh, Outlook is better.
    • Access OK, but never really needed it. o_O

  • I've been using word 2003 forever, and nothing will make me change.

I still have a word 2000 CD from one of the older comps laying around here.  Also, never knew about libreoffice.
  • I just have OpenOffice.org.

I don't really like it though.

If I could, I think I would just write all my documents in LaTeX, since I'm not really a fan of WYSIWYG word processors.  At least, from the ones I've used.

Unfortunately, I don't really have the option of doing that this semester.
  • Oddly enough, despite my apparent word processor fetish, lately I've preferred simply saving my files in plain text (with Notepad++) when I can.

I'm also looking into TiddlyWiki for some of my more "organizable" writings/notes/whatever. It's a single HTML file and all.

    (Also title fixed)
  • Saving files as plaintext also seems much better than using a word processor like Word or OO.o Writer or something like that.

Still, LaTeX is superior to other forms of writing documents simply because it's actually possible to properly write mathematical expressions in a way that isn't hideous.
  • I don't often have a need to write mathematical expressions, so plaintext is usually sufficient for me.

Though I still use Word for school assignments, because for some reason instructors always want those properly formatted, even when you're just turning them in online.

Notepad++ was my main weapon of choice for a while until I switched OSes, though I had Metapad set as the default text editor for text files (as I mainly used notepad++ for coding).  On Linux now, I tend to use gvim.
  • No rainbow star
Wait, there are processors other than Notepad, Notepad ++, Word, and Open Office?
  • Huh, I didn't know about Notepad++
