is lazy.

I wonder if there is a gamedev that takes around as much breaks as him when a game is still being developed.

This might have been a better link to illustrate your point.

That said, I think Notch is doing a pretty good job so far.  If the game were completely broken in every way, then I would be a little more concerned, but it's a freaking amazing game even in Beta, so I say cut him some slack.

Thought I should add some of the minecraft forum experience to this thread

Anyways, I just wish he looked at the modders and hired a few. Especially Dr Zhark. That guy has made more mobs in less time than all of Mojang combined has. It would allow updates to get out there faster, seeing as how the modding community has people that can code circles around Mojang

Yeah, I think he's doing fine, but setting his deadlines too early.
  • ^^ Even Bethesda hired the guy who made that Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul mod.

Thing is, I think Notch might be a little cautious about that, being that Mojang is a small company compared to, say, Valve, who was able to hire out more and more modders as time went on (hiring out the devs of Counter-Strike was a big break for Valve), plus, Notch doesn't like that many mods to begin with.

Most of them are unfinished and require modloader, which is a good modding API, but still sucks since it can't handle similar block IDs without replacing the files completely (you can never run more than 1 "kz.class" file at the same time, so you either go with one mod that uses it or another, or neither). Being able to seperate the mods into different folders and then adapt them into the engine could work extremely well, and that's what the Texture Packs/Mods folder is for, but the modders don't like that avenue and prefer to have the mods inject directly into the .jar file since it takes up less space that way.

According to Turtle's link, he's usually not more than 4 days off-schedule. That's not good, but not Valve bad.
