My dad likes to give me articles about certain subjects. Of course, he likes to attempt to indoctrinate me into conservatism, so he likes to give me articles from a conservative blog called Pajamas Media. Usually, they are well written, so I don't mind them that much.

Today, he gave me one of The New Tork Times, and the usual "eetz becum lieberal!1!" bullshit. Nothing new, so far.

Then this came up:

"...now it had become clear that somewhere along the way [the Times] had become a mouthpiece for that monsterous, chilling, inhuman ideology known as multiculturalism."

MY GOD

IS THERE A SINGLE REPUBLICAN/CONSERVATIVE WHO ISN'T RACIST/XENOPHOBIC

Comments

  • Aren't you conservative?
  • ...what? Monstrous has no e!

...what is the context of that statement anyway? Not that it needs context to sound absurd.

  • There was literally no context, he just said that without backing it up at all.

Sammy: No, I'm more liberal. Guys like this are why.
  • "inhuman ideology known as multiculturalism."

Facepalm.  I don't think even Glenn Beck would go that far....

    IS THERE A SINGLE REPUBLICAN/CONSERVATIVE WHO ISN'T RACIST/XENOPHOBIC?

Depends on what you call racist.  John Stossel opposes certain programs for minorities (He's said if he were running the counttry, amung the things he'd cut alltogether would be the Department of Education and the Bureau of Indian Affairs), but he also believes these programs are so poorly run they actually harm the very people they were created to help.

Liberal. Conservative. A checklist of random issues. I maintain that just because someone wants to protect the environment, doesn't mean that person wants to ban gun ownership. Just because someone wants to end the death penalty, doesn't mean that person wants to keep abortions going. Just because someone supports federalism over increased states rights, doesn't mean that person wants either government to control health care. They pick their issues at random, so it's amazing to me how many people tow a party line as if it were a religion.

    What?

I'd like to know context as well. Right now, it sounds silly. But if the Times said something like: "We should let practicing Sikh carry knives on planes, because it's their culture!" or "We should send people to prison if their views could be understood as hate speech!" then yeah, that version of what they call 'multiculturalism' could be frightening. Of course, I doubt the Times actually did say either of those things, but it would be interesting to note what the writer here is meaning when he says 'multiculturalism'.
  • He never explained what it was. He just said it and continued on.

    Like a typical conservative.

    :( I'm Conservative and not a prick...
  • "Conservative" in Canada means "liberal" in America.

^ So it's really a race between the liberals and the liberals this election?
  • It's a race between the liberals and the slightly less liberal.

    I'm rooting for the Bloc.
  • The GOP in this country is borderline fascist.

Seriously, look at fascist political positions, they're almost all identical to GOP talking points.

^^ It would be hilarious if the Bloc somehow won, considering that they're seperatists

Anybody else think that there should be a new cut off point for Conservatives where, if you hit it, you become... Let's call it Moronatives, so that the Conservatives with a brain can not be compared to them?

Mind you, it might only work if the conservatives with a brain get a new title as idiots who say things like, "DOS LIEBARALS TOOK ER JERBS AN' GAVE DEM TO DAH COMMIE INNERRASHULS!" would probably be too stubborn to adopt a new title...
  • I agree with you, Icalasari. I am so tired of douchebags giving conservatives a bad name. I embrace multiculturalism! If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't even live where I am today.

Someone give me a list of issues, and I will answer with my opinion on them.

Then, based on my answer, please tell me whether I am a liberal or a conservative.  Or provide your choice of term.

    Poot dispenser here
What about the Rent Is Too Damn High Party?

Also, yeah, terms like "liberal" and "conservative" are becoming outdated thanks to the existence of people with wildly differing opinions on various issues.

By that, I mean stuff like Democrats who are against Gun Control and Gay Republicans.

^ Can you blame them, though? Considering that homosexuality has nothing to do with fiscal policies?
