The level of silliness in this place

edited 2011-04-08 21:43:00 in IJBM meta
The nice thing about the old IJBM was the mix of jokes and serious discussion. This one is way too heavy on the former part.

The only one making serious threads is Chagen, and every thread he's in spawns five snowclones and spends half it's time mocking him.

    Invite Tongpu.
  • The only one making serious threads is Chagen,

I actually had to read this twice to let it sink in. Never would I expect anyone to say that about me.
  • I don't think this place would hold his interest.

He doesn't really make many threads anyway.
  • This is exactly why I don't post here as often as I do on TV Tropes.

(Or even as often as I used to, really)

This place seems like a parody of the old IJBM sometimes.
  • No rainbow star
Hey now, I made some serious threads >:
  • I never cared about the serious threads on the old IJBM.

That's not good. If the forum's too silly, it'll only attract silly people. We may eventually hit the Shitpost Event Horizon, the point where the forum can no longer attract serious discussion, and we are forced to watch as the forum is ripped apart at the seams. Posts become disjointed fever dreams of thought fragments, memes and ponies. Posters become pulled into a cyber-gestalt where jumbled pieces of Chagen or GMH or Vorpy occasionally surface, vomiting shattered egos onto our keyboards. Wonderful posts become meta become philosophical.

We need someone to paper over the cracks and hold the forum together. We need an Atlas of the psyche. We need... an OTC troll.

    Yeah.

Granted, sometimes I want to make a serious thread, but I want a larger audience.  We do have quite a few people around already but maybe, say, it's a political thread and I want to have it encounter a larger audience.

I will try to bring more of my gripes here in the future.
  • Woki mit deim Popo.
I know you have few but will anyone really to reply seriously?
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
Well, supposedly, that's what the non-wonderful-posts sections are for.
  • It's weird how
most of us don't like this, even though we've all had at least a bit of a hand in it.

I'm very sarcastic in real life but even I don't really see the point of crapping on Chagen's threads.  If his life is bad as he says it is, why add to that.

For some posters or topics, I'm willing to be moron for fun.

  • I'm not smart enough to contribute serious threads.
  • Has friends besides tanks now
Oddly enough, I feel like I'm more likely to respond to the serious threads because I'm more drawn to them.
