Yes, dad, I am sick. Except, you know, playing video games is vastly less energy-consuming than going to school.

My dad still continues to use this ridiculous logic. Along with guilt-tripping me into going to school. He will use any psychological warfare to get me to go to school, even if I am so sick I can barely do anything. Even running, my favorite pastime, is difficult right now.

I used to get the "if you're too sick to go to school, you're too sick to use the computer." Which I guess was fair, since I went to school online for most of high school.

(Also I don't see what conservatism or Christianity has to do with anything)

Playing video games requires you concentrate and stay focused. Sitting through a lecture allows you to doze off and pretend you're paying attention.

Kids and their excuses. That's on the level of "Music helps me study".

Trust me, I am so sick right now that all I could do today was basically sit and barely pay attention. Playing video games is a piece of cake compared to that. Even though I'm so sick I don't even feel like doing that.

Well, sometimes games may be engrossing enough to help one forget one's real-life situation.  This is typically a bad thing, but I know sometimes I've cured runny noses by getting too caught up in a game or something else that holds my attention well.

Also useful for letting one's nose heal up after a nosebleed.  The blood clot really annoyingly stands inside one's nostril, tempting one to pull it out...and cause the bleeding to restart.  Being able to forget about it for a bit really does help.

I think I remember hearing about studies saying the distraction that video games provide can be therapeutic.

Anyway, there's a lot more stress and physical activity- comparatively speaking- involved with going to school. There's getting dressed, walking around to get to classes, the social interaction. It's a lot more restful to sit motionless in your PJs under a blanket and tap buttons.

And that's not even going into the risk of having others catch it if you go in sick.

And it depends on the game. I like JRPGs and all, but they require minimal brainpower.

When I was sick enough to stay home from school, I sometimes played videogames, but mostly I just crouched near a toilet and retched.

You know there are people out there who concentrate better when there's a distraction. It's one of the symptoms of ADHD.
