The Japanese before WWII.

I'm researching the Japanese rule of Korea for an English Project right now...and holy fuck.

What in the name of God was wrong with this nation? Ridiculous nationalism, xenophobia, dehumanization of other asian races...mass murders, forced prostitution of Korean women, destroying Korean culture, cannibalism, worshipping their mortal leader as a god...what the fuck?

And then we add in the horrific experiments (I don't want to know what kind of Liquid Nitrogen tests the Japanese did on innocent Koreans, and I don't think I want to know), The Rape of Nanking, the imperialism....

ಠ_ಠ

If they were required to get the Japanese to stop this appaling string of insane brutality and digusting discrimination, then I fully support the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Yep. Hell, I know at least one Nagasaki survivor who agrees with you on that last point.

    Relevant pothole added.

Honestly, I don't support the eye for an eye mentality even considering the Japanese atrocities. Partly it's because there's usually a hegemonic ulterior motive involved in such actions, but really, think about what the would would be like if we nuked every nation that committed atrocities.

  • Well, we don't, since we saw how much damage they caused. And I do acknowledge the Japan bombings as a massive tragedy.

But the main reason we don't is probably that we're worried that we'd get into chain of nuking till we eradicated all of humanity. That didn't happen since the whole world was in a "Oh god what the hell did we create?" state.

Well, that's my educated guess at least.

    (void)
Imperialism will do that to a nation.

As for the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the goal wasn't «eye for an eye».  The goal was to end the war as quickly as possible.
  • And worshipping your Emporor. Among other things. Trash, that was put there to show off how fucking crazy they were (I don't think I've heard of any other culture to revere their leaders that much).

But in any case, Asia in general seems to be a place of ridiculous Nationalism/Xenophobia, war, and other unpleasant things.

"(I don't think I've heard of any other culture to revere their leaders that much)."

I can think of three off the top of my head. It's not unusual. Like, at all.
  • «And worshipping your Emporor. Among other things. Trash, that was put there to show off how fucking crazy they were (I don't think I've heard of any other culture to revere their leaders that much).»
Actually, worshipping leaders as gods used to be incredibly common.  The Romans did it, for one.
  • Well, I meant during that time period (early 1900s), I hadn't heard of any culture doing it besides the Japanese.

Also, I'm very heavily surprised at your replies. I was expecting almost all of them to be "WTF MAN YOU SUCH A RACIST ASSHOLE GOD FUKKEN RACIST AMERICAN" or something similar. That always happens on sites where liberal nerds are common.

  • think about what the would would be like if we nuked every nation that committed atrocities.
America would be first in the line.

Never said the former was the goal. I was addressing the idea that Chagen seemed to be having with his last line.

    ...whatever.
