The "What Do You Mean, It's Not Didactic?" page

They might as well rename that page "I Failed English Class And I'm Bitter", because that's basically what it amounts to.

A little elaboration would go a long way, Don. I'm just sayin'.

Agreed with Don.  After reading the non-example part of the page, it appears to be a page about complaining that critics like to analyze the parts of literature that are actually worth analyzing, rather than just writing about how many gratuitous explosions and fight scenes there are and how AWESOME they are.

I'm not going to read the example section because I already know what it'll be like.

    ^^ Basically what DYRE said.

They try to imply/outright state that the only way to really enjoy a work of literature is on a purely entertainment-based level, rather than on a more thoughtful, critical level.

  • Say so on the discussion page or TRS. It'll be "fun".
  • "They might as well rename that page "I Failed English Class And I'm Bitter", because that's basically what it amounts to."

Dude, a lot of pages are like that. See "Measuring The Marigolds".

    ^^ Yeah, about that...

^ I suppose this is the same wiki that gave us the JBM page for Romeo and Juliet that defended the incorrect "true love" interpretation on the basis that that's the one that's incorrectly taken root in pop culture thanks to a countless number of forgettable school play episodes and bad Taylor Swift songs.

  • ^^ IJBM: I want to make a clever comeback, but I really suck at clever comebacks.
  • It's possible to pass english and still not give a flying shit about anything but the entertainment value.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
Not all entertainment is explosions and fight scenes.

A lot of it is drama and comedy too.
  • Comedy is good.  Drama can go die in a fire.  As can romance.  Shakespeare should be burned though.

  • What is with tropers and drama?
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
Because they don't socialize enough IRL.
  • "Shakespeare should be burned though."

Go dig up the corpse, then/
  • Do bones even burn that well?
  • I'm sure Science will find a way.
  • Woki mit deim Popo.
If you heat something hot enough it will burn.  Even ash will burn if it's hot enough.

I can't see what the OP is talking about, but that's only because I have no clue what the hell this trope is supposed to be.

^ Basically, the trope can be summed up as "Literary criticism is bad, yo".

Look, I have good English and grammar, have read multiple classical works, and all that.

But, like Deboss said, you can still only look at the entertainment value of things.

And, again, there is listed, on that page, a Deconstruction of-and you won't believe it-Sinistar.

Yes, the arcade game with the laughing evil asteroid-thing.

The page in a nutshell is "There is no point in trying to explain it because it either isn't supposed to be deep or is meant to be taken at face value."

There's also an example complaining about Alice in Wonderland and several others like it.

And the opening sentence uses Moby-Dick as an example. Are me and whoever created that page thinking of the same book or what?
