Thoughts on the Zoe Quinn controversy, "Gamergate", the "death of gamer culture", etc.
Comments
I was just thinking of the similarity of "They're gonna take away mah gunz!" to "They're gonna take away mah gamez!" There's a lot of crying about journalistic integrity, but most of the complaints are over comments that would be barely considered scathing in an average opinion article. I mean, when Maclean's publishes a racist article about Asians in university, it's not because of corruption. It just reflects badly on the people who read and write the magazine. Same with wanking over Shantae's skin colour, although without any sourcing, it just looks like some fringe opinion that isn't worth attention.
And I'm still waiting for that serious discussion on journalistic integrity.
And there won't be one. Not now.
How is Brad Wardell an asshole? Genuine curiosity here.
If you watched Pirates of Silicon Valley, Steve Jobs was portrayed as a self-absorbed jerk who treated his employees like crap (which is apparently fairly accurate in real life). Brad Wardell is in the same vein. Choice quotes from Alexandra Miseta's lawsuit:
People were inclined to believe he was guilty (and still do) because he was totally remorseless about any of this and it was like he was trying to get himself found guilty.
And this is an unbelievably wrong way of looking at any of these situations. Have we devolved, that we would consider mob justice acceptable, and the court of public opinion a reasonable substitute for due process?
I'm not saying Wardell was guilty (Zimmerman, I'll have to read further into the trial details to check), but the case was not conclusive. It's also silly that the curator list accuses Kotaku of being corrupt for the reporters doing their job. And as a fan of investigative journalism, that really hits a nerve.
Investigative journalism is good. However, the article you link has a title that obviously sets to craft a narrative to the story, if you read to the bottom, it even shows the original, significantly more loaded, image heading the article. What we see now is a pretty heavily edited version of the original article that was run.
I do not believe this is corruption, it's simply business: A defined narrative with an unlikeable villain and a hapless victim gets many more views, and therefore more revenue. You can understand how such tactics would sour said news outlets in the eyes of many, though.
GamerGate now has Alex Jones on their side.
Now everyone is sure to take them seriously!
^We already had that conspiritard Syrian grill on here a few weeks ago.
Since besides the Intel shit not much is happening on the Gamergate front, have some more info to makes the decision of the so-called jilted ex to out his abuser perfectly acceptable: https://www.facebook.com/mallorie.nasrallah/posts/10152274324055882:0
Have an excruciatingly detailed analysis of the Quinn-as-the-abuser perspective:
And it's by the guy who advocated for trigger warnings on college course material, so there's that:
Also, /v/ has been cranking out musical parodies: http://vthemusical.bandcamp.com/music
If I have to watch a >10 min long video, I'd rather it be someone actually charismatic. An hour's worth 4 John Oliver videos, ya know.
He's basically weeding through the zoepost thing with an abuse wheel next to him. The FB link is much shorter, though, and is much easier to pattern match to abusive lying.
Well that was interesting. Of course, the allegations haven't been proven, but she seems like the kind of person not worth paying attention to. However,
An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
Also, an addendum to my previous post: I have a life outside of the Internet, so I don't have as much time to waste on the finer details of e-drama. At least summarize the main points before infodumping me with a long article or video I will never see.
UPDATE: I take back my previous comment. You keep posting these things without verification with the apparent intent of poisoning the well, and I regret falling into that trap.
I'm friends with Phil on Twitter. Probably one of the few (and I mean very few) reasonable voices in GamerGate.
>implying I even watch these videos whole myself
>implying I don't have a life outside the internet
>implying that part of my life isn't also wasted on pointless drama and meandering political discussions
Anyhow, point taken.
That was quite insulting to Addict, Abyss. I hope you don't mean to generalize entire peoples during this event.
The Postal guys, once hated en masse by the media (and moral guardians like Jack Thompson) posted their thoughts today on GamerGate.
Sounds like they're desperate to find a way to remain relevant now that everyone's stopped caring about them.
Define "everyone".
Most of the public gaming consciousness? I mean, it's not like people were generally talking about Postal II recently.
I think there was a Postal III game, but the developers didn't make that one.
Some thoughts on the so-called "blacklist" of Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
Some writer's thoughts on harassment in video games.
Why GamerGate hasn't died yet.
My goodness, RealClearPolitics and Forbes.
A pity that I can't find a clip of Super Macho Man's "Oh these sunglasses? You can't afford THESE sunglasses." That's Forbes in a nutshell.
Brianna Wu just got forced out of her home by death threats. Naturally, GamerGate is already scrambling to deny any and all accountability from their own movement.

In all seriousness, calling people shills, Internet Defense Force, false flaggers, viral marketeers and plants has been standard reaction for years on /v/ and its offshoots. Do you have an archive link to the thread so I can see all the reactions, cos I doubt the scumbag wasn't denounced in stronger terms(I mean, no-one telling the doxxer to kill himself?).
Here you go.
So I guess Brianna can time travel. I was inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt for her safety, but she has tried to pull twitter stunts before. Also, I don't see 8chan all endorse the alleged harassing of this person. Nor do I see any mention of GamerGate in the twitter threats, so I don't see the connection.
Kingdom Come coverage came days after the video was posted, so while it doesn't necessarily prove there was a blacklist, it doesn't change the fact at the time of the video there wasn't any coverage from those sites.
If anyone wants to get caught up in what's happening, Financial Post put up a piece.
Could you try reading something other than right-wing rags? You seem to post these without any critical thinking.
Assuming this is true, which I doubt, ever heard of the false equivalence fallacy?
It is weird to report on harassment before the harassment, well, happens. I'm just saying take this with a grain of salt, either this is a false flag or there is a third party attempting to harass both sides of this for the lulz. Trolls don't care about collateral damage.
