Men not being responsible for chores
How did this originate? In my family, not doing chores meant you were lazy regardless of gender.

Because chores are housework and housework was the assigned domain of women for centuries and centuries. There's still leftovers of it everywhere(though living together with various roomies has left me with the impression that women can be just as slacking as dudes).
