My mom thinks I'm gonna kill somebody.

...Because I know how to load a gun.

Okay, quick dossier: My brother is a 22-year-old deadbeat with no job who lives with my grandfather (he got custody of my brother when he was born) and has knocked up a girl and acted crazy and refuses to pay any type of child support for his 1-year-old son. My grandfather thought he might go crazy one day, so today, he gave my father his shotgun, pistol, and a bunch of ammo for each.

At home, my father checks to make sure both guns are unloaded. I watch, and he decides, after seeing that they are unloaded, to show me the basics on gun safety--how to hold them, how to load them properly (he did not show me how to do it with live ammo, however), and the like.

My mom went BALLISTIC.

She went completely insane, and started screaming about how he's teaching how to use guns, and how I'm gonna kill somebody, and even though I said I wouldn't do it she still believed it because I apparently lying or some bullshit like that. She just screaming and screaming and screaming and started calling me a piece of shit and a worthless fuck and and other assorted insults.

[sarcasm]Because, if I know gun safety and how to load a gun properly, I'm going to kill somebody. Yes, because that makes perfect sense.[/sarcasm]

  • Yikes, her unrealistic view on gun safety training isn't even close to the most disturbing thing in that story.

My most sincere condolences for having to put up with that kind of abuse.
  • Nah, don't worry. My mom normally is a pretty cool gal, eh, does fun things with me and doesn't afraid of anything.

If it wasn't for her, I would not be the person I am today. I used to love her far more than I love my dad--she always did fun things with me, she let me be creative and free, she let me make my own decisions instead of forcing me to do things her way...I love her a lot. She's undergoing a ton of stress right now, and she's almost never like this.
  • "If it wasn't for her, I would not be the person I am today." Not to sound like a jerk, but how is that a good thing? You are one of the most broken people I've ever met online. Not that I think you're dangerous, I'm sure you're a pretty cool guy.
  • I meant more in my playful personality. In real life, I am a Genki Boy to the max. I'm really hyperactive and playful, much more than on the internet. And she also fostered my writing and creativity. Any of my problems were not her fault; on the other hand, she helped me get through it.
  • I think guns are just Nightmare Fuel for some people.  My mom would probably prefer if only police and soldiers were even allowed to touch them, and does not like knives with a sharpened tip or oversize scissors.

I kind of have a problem with garbage disposals myself.  I'd really rather they didn't make them unless they came with a door and only work when it was fully closed.
