I usually don't mentally pronounce acronyms as words
Including ones such as PNG that are explicitly supposed to be.
I feel so left out.

PNG isn't pronounced pee-en-gee?
What's wrong with me?
It's supposed to be "ping". According to the original creators of the format, there being an official pronunciation is one of its chief advantages over GIF.
Even though "gif" is easier to pronounce since it has a vowel? Wow.
Careful, these discussions can get quite acronymonious.
@Naas_H_Sapiens: You would be amazed at how heated discussions on whether to pronounce "GIF" with a hard or soft G can get.
^^ I'm Gimmeh and I approve this message.
Come to think of it, "pee-en-gee" sounds like it's referring to Procter and Gamble (P&G). Then again, "ping" sounds like quite a number of things unrelated to digital image format.
^ Hmm, how would someone pronounce "NHS"? Actually, I've been wondering if I should just shorten it to "Naas".
^^^ Hard G seems more logical to me just because the G stands for Graphics.
^ En-aytch-ess, I'd imagine. Don't know why anyone would instinctively pronounce it na-hass unless they're more used to abjads than alphabets.
Which is stupid, because there is an official pronunciation for GIF. The original developers at CompuServe intended it as a play on Jif peanut butter and have said so on multiple occasions.
