...for some reason I thought that quote was talking about him smoking crack at the Air Canada Centre.

Good to hear, even if it is far too early to make any meaningful predictions about the election.
Also, wow, this is happening. This is one of several related motions, actually. Others remove the mayor's ability to appoint and dismiss committee members and remove the ability to take emergency powers. They're to be voted on (and likely pass) at special meetings of council over the next week.
Council passed the motions to remove Ford's control over committees and his emergency powers. When the third thing (the one I linked) passes Monday, he will be mayor in name only.
Also there was applause when Doug Ford said he wasn't going to run for reelection.
Nice to read this.
Doug Ford?
Rob Ford's brother, who's a member of the Toronto City Council.
> Rob's brother Doug
Why am I seeing a That Guy With the Glasses joke here? I don't even watch their videos anymore.
Something relevant I found on Twitter:
Not sure where that pic is from, but that apparently did happen.
Council vote happened. For all intents and purposes, deputy mayor Norm Kelly is now mayor. Doug Ford is calling it a coup, obviously, and the Fords want to take it to court along with all the other people Rob has recently threatened to sue. Gonna be a fun year.
Also, a decent summary of the whole situation. Aimed at Americans but maybe useful to outsiders in general.
Where did I read smething about him wanting to become prime minister...
...then again, Mark Sanford is currently serving in Congress.
There is absolutely no chance of that ever happening, incidentally.
lol
So, in an interview with fellow criminal scumabg Conrad Black, Rob Ford accused a reporter of being a pedophile for some reason. (He's referring to the incident in which he physically attacked the guy for taking pictures of his house.)
The Toronto Star's lawyers "are involved", apparently.
Here we go again...
idk if anyone is still reading this thread but Daniel Dale (the reporter) is in fact suing Rob Ford.
Sometimes I wonder if Rob Ford made a bet about how many ridiculous situations that are entirely his own fault he could get into in four years.
For if Rob Ford ever needed a theme song.
Ford has "apologized" to Daniel Dale. This of course makes everything better.
edit: dale is still suing
Well now he gave a real apology/retraction and Dale isn't going to sue. (Well, not going to sure Ford, matters with the TV channel that aired it are "still outstanding".) Probably for the best, but what am I going to do with all this popcorn?

dude just can't stay out of trouble
what even the fuck
relevant
??__??
Defending Justin Bieber? Okay, now the man's officially nuts.
he did it in one of his drunken stupors
I demand an apology from Mr. Ford.
Doug Ford has filed a complaint about police chief Bill Blair. He's accusing Blair of breaking conflict-of-interest laws and acting like his position makes him above the law. Unlike Rob Ford, of course, who actually is above the law. Apparently.
Edit: The alleged conflict of interest involves a fishing trip Ford took with someone who, as it happens, also donated a couple grand to Ford's campaign in 2010...
Well, shit.
(Though the fact that he's "taking a break from his campaign" as opposed to you know, dropping out of the race is still ridiculous.)
He also said some gross things (which were briefly thought to be the reason for his "break"), but that's not really new or surprising.
oh hey this happened too
That makes the earlier Bieber one more hilarious or something.
and it just keeps coming
Oh right, this thread.
So, Rob has a tumour, and the biopsy results won't be in until next week. The deadline for joining / leaving the mayoral race was Friday, so Rob dropped out in order to have time to recover, and Doug stepped in. Doug is less likely to win than Rob, who was already far from being the favourite, so this probably means that we don't end up with a Ford in office. (Though if Doug did get in, he's probably worse than Rob.)
On the other hand, for some reason Rob decided to run for his old council seat again, I guess because he's guaranteed to win it with no need for campaigning so he can still spend some time recovering. Which basically means that we're stuck with Ford shouting at City Hall for another four years.
So ultimately this makes things worse for everyone, but John Tory (the current frontrunner) was probably fighting back a smile as he expressed his sympathies.
