Vocaloids & their fans
I just don't see the appeal. I can see why one would be impressed by the concept of a singing robot, but wouldn't it be a lot better if said robot could actually sing? Most vocaloid songs just sound like some whore trying to speak to someone over the phone with a dick in his / her mouth while driving through a tunnel. The only time a vocaloid song sounds even remotely good is when an actual person is singing it, and since most of the fans have no talent whatsoever (other than making obnoxious knock off fan-vocaloids), it's rare to find a vocaloid song sung by anyone that doesn't make you want to rip both ears off and drive a screwdriver through your head. It seems as if the only reason they're so popular is because of all the ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS shipping fodder they provide (*cough* AXIS HETALIA POWERS *cough*).
On that note, the fans. The fans. Oh dear god, the fans. Why must they be so obnoxious and creepy? Well, other than them being shippers, of course. A quarter of the fanbase wants to wreck the poor, unsuspecting anus of a fourteen year old boy, a quarter wants to pair said boy up with his twin sister (or mirror reflection, or whatever, it's still creepy), a quarter just wants copious amounts of yaoi (mostly involving Kaito getting his ass pounded by one of his annoying brothers / Gackt-bot / aforementioned fourteen year old boy / Frankenoid / Miku with a dick / anyone, really), and the last quarter just thinks that "OMG [Miku / Rin / Luka / Lily / Yuki (eww) / Haku / Meiko] AND [Kaito / Len / Gakupo / Kiyoteru (except not, lol) / that grey-haired fucker that's apparently Haku's brother or something like that] ARE SO FUCKING KAWAII TOGETHER AND ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE SUXXX!11".
Oh, and UTAUloids suck (Every. Single. One. Ever.). Please, vocaloid fans, stop with the UTAUloids.

* Most vocaloid fans are males that have very little female contact, and the vocaloids can surrogate this.
* Most fans are psychologically driven to be attracted to sounds that are similar to the noises a female makes, which is why they like idols and female singers so much. This is how the appeal cashes in on them.
* They are made to be cute, and most fans have a lack of cute in their lives so they enjoy the way vocaloids look.
* Most of the time the Vocaloids are an empty slate to be used as self-projection for most uglier female fans or females with horrible self-esteem, which is why they like them.
* Vocaloids are mostly female, and guys like girls.
* Animesque and Japanese appeal.
* Because they are not real, you can do anything you want to them and with them.

This. I don't really like the "roboticness", but I don't care too much. I find the concept of vocalist-quality voice synthesizing to be pretty cool, but it's quite obvious that they're not real people when you hear them sing. That, and some of the songs are quite nice--such as "Letter Song".
That said, I prefer real person ENE's version of Letter Song more, for what it's worth.
