People who think they can avoid picking a side while hanging out with political people
Even if you don't consciously do so, you're gonna end up hanging out with one group or another and picking up a few of their ideas, ways of thinking and speaking and unconscious assumptions without knowing that you're doing it, and that's gonna alienate you to the other group.

>people who
Anyway, I agree, but I'd say that, depending on the context, the process can be delayed and extended to the point where it's not really noticeable until 2 years later you think, "wait, what the hell happened to [other people]".
The obvious solution is, of course, to pick and choose ideas that you actually believe in instead of eating what gets shat upon your shoes by a shambling construct of ideas called a party. Being able to research things for yourself helps.
And then you'll gravitate towards people that share those ideas, while distancing yourself from those who don't. I don't think Myrmidon is referring to "brainwashing" or peer pressure, but rather that the notion that you're going to remain neutral in the matter of skub while frequenting a skub discussion forum is silly.
Neutrality is pretty much impossible to be sure, by sheer virtue of complete apathy rarely being a thing (and not a particularly good one when it happens). But distancing yourself from people who disagree with you will only happen if it's obnoxiously extreme.
Rightards and leftards distance themselves from everyone, not the other way around. Mocking and ganging up on extremists is a relief for all the middle-ground-leaning folks who are often too lazy, afraid of offending or too tired to discuss politics seriously.
Politics are depressing as shit to discuss and I already know where I stand on most issues.
Of course none of my friends are particularly political people, provided by that you mean "lunatics", which I'm guessing you do.
What a shitty thread.
^Don't do that.
wrong thread
Myrm, why is it I can always count on a thread with "People who" is always created by you? I thought we talked about this.
First of all I think you should clarify what you mean by political people. While it is true that people with similar political viewpoints often become friends or at least gravitate to one another, it isn't always true as some of the most stimulating conversation to be had is often with someone you disagree with, as long as it doesn't descend into a shouting contest which is, unfortunately, often the case.
It just feels like any day Myrmidon will make a thread on how TvT users get too defensive whenever some internet reviewer bashes something they like. That and the topic of this thread are similar in that no one really cares.
A topic nobody really cares about? That's not exactly uncommon on this forum.
Perhaps "no one cares about" wasn't the phrase I meant, maybe common knowledge that would bore most people. The other threads here have a purpose in that they are talking about their respective subject matters, this one just seems to be complaining about something that just happens in everyday life. It's like complaining some people chew with their mouths open, it's going to keep happening.

We have threads complaining about computer errors, repugs that gonna repug, inaccuracies in fan-art and interpretation of minor characters in media on the front page. "This shit is minor/gonna keep happening" can easily be applied to anything. OP often suffers from obscurantism or passive-aggressive call-outs of peeps on other sites that border on drama-importing, but that's no reason for antipathy in case he does make a good thread. Ignoring it isn't too hard.
I'm not sure if it's a good or a bad thing that I don't know what, if anything, the OP is dog-whistling about.
