The Philosophers

Really Hollywood? You finally decide to show my field of expertise some love and it's this trite, played out garbage with bargain bin Deontology triumphing over half-hearted rational choice theory? Fuck you Hollywood, the Twilight Zone did this better on at least two occasions more than half a decade ago.

  • They're somethin' else.

    ... cute.

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

Deontology thriumping over rational theory? I'm in.

  • They're somethin' else.

I would have been fine with it, but from the looks of the trailer, this looks like Battle Royale reskinned with essay wank that would make Waking Life sound profound by comparison. Incredibly corny vibes.

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

    Oh, it looks awful allright.

"you duck spawn, refined creature, you try to be cynical, yokel, but all that comes out of it is that you're a dunce!!!!! you duck plug!"

"But Friedrich, it was supposed to be a duel of intellects!"

"Kiss my Will to Power, bitch!"

So I didn't expect it'd be a Hollywood film. I was going to crack a joke that I expected philosophy version of Big Bang Theory.

  • They're somethin' else.

^ That's a better comparison than mine, to be perfectly frank. I wonder who's gonna be next in that film to through around Nihilism and Existentialism interchangeably.

  • I actually laughed at the part around two minutes in where the guy says "This is not philosophy."

    Because it really isn't.

  • "you duck spawn, refined creature, you try to be cynical, yokel, but all that comes out of it is that you're a dunce!!!!! you duck plug!"

So what it's about, 'cause I'm not sure if I got it? Some sort of fictionalisation of that prison experiment? Like, a couple of people are told to play out having to compete with the others for a place in a bomb shelter, until they start killing each other for real?

  • They can't get architects right, and they use them all the time. Philosophy never stood a chance.
