so this is a problem I've run into with many games that lack an in-game remap option. Basically, I will always want to use my numpad as the arrow keys, the problem is that most games don't recognize them as such even without the numlock on, and key-remapping programs like SharpKey don't seem to fix this problem.
Any advice, IJBM?

That sucks.
Not to mention that many laptops lack numpads completely.
The world sucks for left-handed people.
What's wrong with the arrow keys?
I haaate using the numpad as arrows.
I personally use the arrow keys, but I can see why some people might prefer the numpad arrows. DDR-type games is an easy example.
I need to use numpad for NetHack. Arrow keys don't let me move diagonally in one turn, and YUBNHJKL makes me puke ASCII characters.
I got used to yubnhjkl, actually.
Vi keys are a vile affront to life itself.
But you should be using something like ZX./ or similar for those. Laying out the keys in the same shape as a dance pad is just going to result in you not being able to play any hard songs and it's kind of silly on top of that.
Also, arrow keys are horrible and in my experience are not suitable for gaming on most keyboards.
Actually, I use the arrow keys for Stepmania...but I use two hands. It's a special thing if I actually complete a song using just one hand.
And I pretty much always use arrow keys for gaming. I don't see how they're that bad.
Arrow keys are small and often feel different from the other keys and usually result in problems if you hold more than one arrow key + some other key, moreso than other keys do a lot of the time.
And yes I know you still would use two hands for Stepmania, but it's still generally easier if your hands are separated and... lined up.
But see if i want to one-hand it, I can do so without changing keybindings.
