"Lazy" singing in pop songs
Comments
@Another Holy War: Great band, but my feelings on the singing are between worry for his vocal chords and wanting to just stop and forget it exists.
^ I guess I judged it a bit more visually than by it's musical style since I haven't really tracked the evolution of western music over the years.
The singer is one Hansi Kursch. His vocal talents have deteriorated somewhat with age, but just a few years ago, he was considered one of the best (if not the best) vocalists in all of metal.
Here he is in a somewhat different context.
If you search "blind guardian eldar" you can probably find it.
If you're looking for Yet Another Band Trying to Be Led Zeppelin--which, in my experience, is usually what people want when they say things like this--I will point you in the general direction of Wolfmother.
Don't be hating on Boston, yo.
May everything and everyone in your homes get dry. Except for the laundry.
^^
tl;dr I can find music I like in that vein, but the term "rock" has been rendered nearly meaningless by letting every 3-5 piece band with rock instrumentation into it. That's my issue here.
Also, Wolfmother have the superficial stuff but aren't particularly creative or even that expressive, I find. Airborne do the best "copy a classic band" schtick out there, probably, and then you have bands like Buck Cherry that have a classic rock approach going on but are actually reasonably fresh.
Your one does not sound nearly... melancholic, enough.
^^
Fair enough. I admit I have tried to get into rock music before and mostly failed (the little rock I do like is mostly things like Travis, which I doubt you'd really consider rock). Pretty much the only "classic rock band" I can think of that I like is The Flamin' Groovies, who are rather obscure ("Brushfire" is a good song).
I like some Led Zeppelin, but mostly in a hip-hop context. If that makes any sense.
The thread title keeps making me think of the old Japanese band called "Lazy". I think the only (somewhat) recent thing they did was getting back together for Shin mazinger
For what it's worth, I've now had the song "How to Save a Life" in my head since making this thread.
It's a nice song, really. It's just one of those that sounds better in my head than when I cue up the mp3.
Based on what Nova said, though, now I'm wondering if the lyrics (which I've never really made out or paid much attention to) involve the speaker feeling exasperated or exhausted.
