What is the genre of this music?
Don't say "videogame" (that's just its use) or "chiptune"/"synthesized" (that's just its instrumentation). Is it jazz? rock? metal? Where does it trace its rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic features to?
Comments
I'd say some form of jazz. It's too discordant even for most metal, and would be even moreso with distortion or overdrive effects. This kind of chromatic approach really belongs to jazz more than anything else, I think.
^^ But doesn't jazz usually feature swing rhythms? So that would make this jazz minus swing rhythms...but simple jazz minus swing rhythms is rock-and-roll, which means that this is basically rock-and-roll plus advanced jazz?
Hmm, I hear some rock 'n roll influence in there with some strong bass. I do not know enough about stuff like this to be honest.
Also was in I Wanna Be the Guy.
^^ Does doesn't require swing rhythms. That's kinda like saying metal requires gallops.
I know this is gonna sound funky, but it sounds like Atheist's brand of Jazz/Death Metal, which is really all about the juxtaposition of jazzy tunes and discordance.
I'd say it's more discordant than Atheist, personally.
Rhythmically, I'd say it's somewhere between jazz funk and latin dance. So I guess that makes it roughly bossa nova...ish.
^^Sounds about as discordant as Atheist's Mother Man to me.
Maybe a better comparison would be anything by Le Scrawl?
I'm not familiar with Le Scrawl, so /shrugs
