So I was browsing the Tropes page for Sonic 2006, and I realized that one line said something along the lines of there being Sonic 2006 defenders. If I recalled correctly, many people have pointed out that Sonic 2006 was the worst Sonic game ever, if not one of THE worst games in general by showing various problems with the game.
Now, I've asked this question before on another site, and some of them said that some people enjoy the game, though acknowledge that it's bad, and others say that the CGI and story was rather neat. It still bugs me to know that something that universally fails as a game actually has a sort of fanbase...
Then again, if Cheetahmen 2 has a good fanbase and I liked some of the bad episodes of MLP (Mare-Do-Well comes to mind), then it's logical that 06 has defenders.

how horrid.
No.
The ones who like it can't be called "people"

I don't think is has anything to do with Sonic 2006, but the fact that Sonic is attached to it. Plenty of fanbases have their insane corners, but the Sonic fanbase is very special in this respect. If Sonic 2006 wasn't about a blue hedgehog but about, say, a purple porcupine, no-one would give it any attention. I'm sure we've all been in the position of seeing something we really like going downhill and trying to rationalise it, or trying to squeeze some enjoyment out of it. And by goodness did Sonic age gracelessly.
Surprise, people have unpopular opinions, now go reblog on Tumblr
I enjoy the art direction, set design, and some of the music. But then, Sonic's been pretty good on that front for a long while.
But yeah, the game on the whole was as shit as it gets. It's what happens when executives make you release a game for an anniversary when you still have 5-6 months of beta left, idiotic writing notwithstanding.
I've never played it (wasn't into Sonic at the time it came out but returned to the franchise a year or so later and found out about its low quality) but I find it to be something of a blessing in disguise...they wouldn't have tried overhauling stuff for the better if not for '06 being such a mess...
Yeah, I gotta say Generations was worth the "100 ways not to make a light bulb" we got with 2006.
Also, we got one of the best LPs ever out of it.
Yeah, that too.
I recall enjoying it when it came out mostly because of how broken multiplayer was (pick Silver, grab your rival, WIN AT EVERYTHING), but I was also twelve at the time.
I also recall finding the assorted gems cool, but not cool enough to redeem the rest of the game.
Man, I forgot it even had multiplayer.
