One of my classes assigns readings, and we're supposed to read them and the comment on them on the class discussion board.
Most people write one to three paragraphs of commentary.
If I don't constrain myself, I end up writing seven-paragraph over-1000-words essays.

As long as you're not fluffing things, that's a good sign. When you get an essay with a length limit, profs will pretty much cream themselves when you actually have to trim things down to pack in all the juicy stuff you found, because most of the class will be half-assedly dragging out like two facts (probably one of them from Wikipedia) into hundreds of words.
