  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

In fairness, I won't deny that it's possible, but striking a balance isn't easy.

Many things aren't easy. They can still be done though.

Haven't played (or even heard of) ADERA, so can't really comment on it.

It hasn't been released yet, is why.

  • My arms are falling off!

Speaking of the Sliding Scale of Casual Gamer vs Hardcore Gamer, I hate that "hardcore" is often defined to mean "play all the violent video games". Apparently, playing shallow but gory games makes you a more "hardcore" player than someone who plays even the most challenging versions of Tetris.

    ^^That would explain a lot.

I can't really hate it because it's just so hilarious. I mean, take the Modern Warfare series. Simple game, primarily focused on a mode that's specifically designed to be played in short bursts. Very much designed to be a casual game.

  • But people who claim to be hardcore gamers hate Modern Warfare, so that's a bad example.

Depends on who you ask. There's more than one demographic claiming to be hardcore gamers, because people don't apply the term based on any definition so much as wanting to sound cool.

One of the more interesting perspectives I got on this topic was when I was playing WoW.  I actually played considerably less when I was in an endgame raid guild than when I was in a "casual" guild that could barely scrape together heroics, and the former involved a whole lot less tedious beating our heads against walls to boot despite supposedly being more hardcore content.  Like, we sat down and kicked ass while schmoozing and having weird conversations on Vent.  Didn't really take that long compared to my old "casual" guilds that'd go around farming pithy crap for months because they couldn't tell their ass from their polymorph, couldn't focus fire on the thing with the big fucking skull on it to save their lives, had the field awareness of a butternut squash, and caused wipes on easy content.
