I have the choice to go to a con.
An Anime con, to be specific.
Apparently a nearby university hosts a con--called Mizumi-Con-- every year. My friend told me about it--it's happening this saturday. 15 bucks for admission.
I would like to go...but what exactly does one do at a con? Not to mention big crowds tend to make me nervous. And I'm awkward in public...so it's not like I can look for potential girlfriends either. Or boyfriends (50/50 bisexuality FUCK YEAR), for that matter. And I'm horribly antisocial, so I probably wouldn't even do much, when cons seem to be very social and outgoing events....
I can go, I just wonder if I should...

a con?
Shop, discuss anime, cosplay, comment on cosplayers, create a new self image, have sex with cosplayers, sell merchandise, acquire info and opinions on certain works, troll people, or steal shit.

Mostly everyone that goes to a con is either an introvert who's afraid of socialization or isn't very good at it, or are extremely outgoing and desire attention, either through the means of cosplay, advertisement, or making obnoxious noises. Chagen, if anything, you should look for a girl/boy/transfriend there. Anywhere else will merit you none of the features you would enjoy.

If you were antisocial you would not go to the con at all. Perhaps you are just self consious. No, not all of them are social. They just involve lots of people wandering around and talking to their friends. Just look at the stands and wander around.
I did plan on going to two different conventions last year, but neither of them panned out--I was sick one time and out of town the other time. Maybe things will be different this year or next since I'll soon be living in NYC itself.
That said, I'm not likely to enjoy the experience much. I'm rarely a fan of cosplays, and most cosplayers only get the costume details right and totally wreck the characterization otherwise--which is why they don't interest me much. I'm not much of a Japanese culture buff, so excessive displays of sushi, mochi, kimonos, and gratuitous Japanese will more likely turn me off than excite me. And I don't really like how the fandom screams at stuff when speakers come on stage--they scream so loudly I often can't hear them talk.
That said, perhaps I could prep myself for something like this. Give my fellow animé fans something they might want. Which means I should get to work on a bunch of piano transcriptions of notable animé and videogame music, as well as recordings of my playing them.
