My new phone erased all the photos on my SD card
I was already suspicious when my new phone couldn't read all those pictures, and then when I looked at the folders again, it no longer recognized the presence of files in certain folders.
In fact, it's specifically all the pictures i took with my old cell phone. And not any of the few miscellaneous pictures I uploaded separately.
...anyone know how to recover files deleted from a microSD card?

There are a lot of undelete utilities for cards out there for photographers. Not sure of what's the best, but they're out there.
I've heard that it's just a FAT filesystem so any utility that works with that should work. Do you know of any free ones?
It's been way too long and back in the day, I just pirated Norton Utilities to do that kind of thing. I'm not sure what's good now.
But yes, it's just FAT of some version.
