Televised talent competitions
I think I'd like them a lot more if they actually focused on the learning aspect as opposed to deluding people into thinking they'll become instant stars just by winning, but I guess the former message isn't as instinctively appealing. I recall the CBC had a show called Triple Sensation which was a series of acting, singing, and dancing workshops and the prize was a scholarship to a theatre institute, which sounds more realistic in concept.
