I wonder if depression has something to do with it.
It's Anime Expo and so many things have been announced I can't even handle it.
It's also rarely very unique. Somebody's corrupt, somebody claims they're less corrupt than the last guy, the government greenlights yet another massive building nobody needs and surely isn't taking payments under the table from their Surely Reputable European Contractors, everybody promises no more corruption for at least the next five minutes.
But, we had Quite the Election a few months ago, and nobody can get over it. There's a concerted effort to get the head of the electoral commission fired, initially led by (surprise surprise) The Losers of said election, which was quickly co-opted by a man who is probably gay (I mean I'm obliged to claim that he might just be a very strong LGBT ally or an opportunist who noticed the UN regularly gives out money for such causes, but that's not likely in the slightest).
His main means of Protest has been to gather up lots of unemployed people (and boy do we sure have a bunch of those!) to cause serious harm to public and private property (a guy at my mother's workplace was almost bricked in the head despite working on the second floor, luckily that was the extent of the damage they did there).
On the Governments Side, we have a (former?) women's rights activist (who apparently really feels bad for socialists and communists? I dunno, she wrote a really weird editorial) who is playing the "They just want the head of the electoral commission removed because she's a woman!" card.
I mean, this is forgetting that basically every head of the electoral commission in this country for like three quarters of my life has been a woman, but also overlooking that this is just a concerted effort by The Losers to be Giant Idiots that actually has nothing to do with misogyny, but also the government probably cheated but who really cares about that because they always cheat.
Her main means of Protest has been... confusing. She organized a press-conference at which she and four other women (including our Minister of Gender?)... cried? For ten minutes straight? About how terrible it was that people wanted the electoral commission head removed because she was a woman?
So, um, yeah.
Regardless, stay safe!
But in the long run, thing's will probably be fine. Touch wood and all that.

I've been thinking about getting an imdb account, because I frequently have things to say about American TV shows (and I guess, other TV shows) and I don't see them said on imdb.
I would just read other websites that do TV recaps but I've noticed a completely unbelievable trend; they all seem to just agree with what general consensus on twitter is, and sometimes even just include tweets!
A really good example I think is Game of Thrones. If you read through any specific mainstream sites' reviews you can basically see the point at which journalists realized people didn't like Season 8.
Also, I'm worried that this site is going through a really bad engagement drought right now. I'll consider starting more threads or doing... something. Who knows if it'll even work.
Isn't it a bit more like a perpetual state? At the very least the site seems to continue serving its purpose, which is arguably quite comforting. I don't always participate in discussions since I'd have to feel I have something to add, and for an example, there's nothing I can contribute in regards to, like, JRPGs. But otherwise go ahead.
To be honest, I might be overblowing it because over the last few days I wasn't paying much attention to anything that isn't Lost Dimension. It might just suddenly have jumped out at me.
That is true.
On unrelated stuff, whenever I see one of those books/articles with enlarged snippets from the text itself, I can't help but think that the author is arrogantly quoting him/herself.
Speaking of which, I'm spending too much 'free' time reading the most random of editorials. Usually like, Vox or The Atlantic or whatever, just because they have so much content all the danged time.
It turns my free time to mush, so I should probably stop.
How people think of influencers:
>start popular account
>make repetitive content
>profit from selling ads as 'sponsored posts'
How influencers see themselves:
>start popular account
>accrue money from sponsored posts (or selling your own bath water)
>accrue
brandname-recognition from interwebz>gain actual political power
oh my gosh is this eurobeat
and 9/11
Somebody seems to have recently posted their entire collection from Venezuela. My Scene was actually so big in Latin America and other Spanish speaking countries that Mattel kept it running there for at least a year after it had stopped production of dolls for English speaking countries.
In terms of dolls, this person has some of the dolls. However, they're quite overpriced, about 70% higher than other listings. I wondered why for about 10 minutes then I realized it might have been this person's only means of significant income.
I think she hangs out on Discord, mostly.
As for the doll vendor, someone who can sustainably deal online is going to make much more money like that than with any "normal" job here, though a doll collection doesn't sound like consistent business. Perhaps that person needs lots of $ quick.
In more current doll-o-sphere news (this ended up being much longer than expected so I spoilered it);
These are both departures from the industry standard of just molding breasts with no significant detail. As a Prude, I'm going to be honest here and say the L.O.L. O.M.G. thing kind of bothers me because they do show up through very tight clothing (which, obviously, a lot of dolls have).
In conjunction with their choice of painted on underwear (the sort of "fashionable" lingerie that only covers the bottom half of the crotch and, because of the way their legs are jointed, only covers the tiniest amount of backside), I'm going to be That Guy and say I don't think either choice is appropriate for a children's toy.
When people complained about Bratz, I was on the side of "They're just toys", and it'd be fun to say I guess now I'm just Old and don't understand The Kids. However, Bratz dolls barely have any chest area, and the only dolls before now to have visible nipples were Integrity Toys dolls which are aimed at an audience of 15 and up. I won't roar about how this is Capital Letter Sexualization or something, the truth is I just don't like it.
It's just like the Queens Blade key visuals, really, and I don't like those either, because those are specifically made to be like "Hey, average guy! Forget about quality storytelling because we have fanservice!" (or, to be fair, like Valkyrie Drive, which tried to tell a vaguely compelling story... about girls who could only become weapons when a friend did ridiculously sexual things to them for 2 on-screen minutes).
It's a daft attempt at pushing the boundaries of nothing, in a way that makes me recall fanservice anime.
I'm sorry this explanation is so long, but I feel like my opinion appears to have 180d so hard (despite it not really changing at all) that just putting a simplistic "I don't like it because [one word]" would make me look wishy washy.
Although, I've watched enough cinspiracy thrillers to wonder if it could serve as a basis for one of these stories.
I'm not one to feel embarrassed by my old posts, usually, because I feel like I don't really go too far. But reading some of those posts I realized that I can be kind of thought-policey.
I mean, of course today has to also be the day I discover this clip, which kind of exacerbated the feeling.
To be honest I don't know if I'm still this bad now. I mean, I hope not. I do know that sometimes I point stuff out here and it's not like I'm specifically trying to limit you guys or anything.
It's just sometimes I will want to leave something alone but then I realize that we're essentially a room full of guys and I don't want anybody coming here (I mean, not that anybody does) and think "Oh they're those people who let each other say things like that because they're in a group" or whatever because frankly the number of times this sort of scenario has come up in the news is downright strange to me.
Not strange in the sense that "why did these people say these things" but in the sense that "why is it okay to rifle through people's private messages and then accost them for things they never meant to say in polite company in the newsmedia". Iunno, I feel like maybe human beings have the right to be secretly terrible, even if they hold public office (as long as they keep it to themselves at all times).
Well, I know this basically boiled down to "I was just trying to protect you" which is... I don't know how to describe it, but it's certainly not exactly a good thing.
Man I wish I was a kid again because things seemed much clearer to me then. Also I seemed way less like the villain of the story.
Then again as a kid my hero was Massie Block.
Not the most fortunate of sudden realizations.
Also.
As far as I think of it, there's something about what you call the right to be secretly terrible. I mean, I can get the point of digging up someone's neo-Nazi connections even (especially) when they deny them in public. But, like, if you need WebArchive to dig up someone's "edgy" joke from 2001 when they were fifteen and drunk, then that person probably isn't deserving a public shaming. At least, not for that.
The internet has changed quite a bit, once upon a time it was that weird place that didn't matter in the grand scheme of things, where using Wikipedia was frowned upon, finding dates was for weirdos, few people visited the same site (vs. Facebook et al) and most memes were created and/or popularized by Anon.
Edit: on second thought, I should've said "using dating sites" rather than "finding dates".
Just today I had this thought that instead of anonymous memes, you went for a cheap laugh to places like Newgrounds and its piles of (comparatively) professional-quality content. But then, I'm not that old, to act the grumpy grampa on this topic.
I think at least in academic contexts (I mean, usually for high school and below anyways) it still is. At least, I hope so.
One thing I don't like about modern wikis is that almost all of them use Fandom. Not only is that extremely broken and bloated most times, but it's also full of ads for Fandom itself.
Similarly, dating apps are considered way more normal that signing up for OKCupid or it's ilk. And I feel like as soon as you get away from OKCupid and PlentyOfFish the only thing you can think of is Christian[Weird-completely-unrelated-thing-doers] type-sites or mail-order brides (are those still a thing?).
I'm glad I've always had a grandpa sense of humor.
In things I simultaneously miss and don't miss; I miss when forums would erupt into drama and people would document it. I don't miss it mainly because of my personal experiences in it were not fun, and it's led to the implosion of many a site.
Most drama nowadays is very mainstream, taking place on big sites like YouTube and Instagram. It's never as appealing, because the participants always feel like they're shadow-boxing at each other so they can have a big "they made up" fuss later.
Also, I can second the dislike for fandom wikis, in no small part due to the fact there often are established wikis on the topic that nevertheless get replaced in Google's positioning because some newcomer didn't bother to check.
I bought an old, cheapo computer for thirty bucks, with no drive and faulty power source but with peripherals (monitor, mouse and keyboard) which is what I wanted. I may be able to use parts from two other similarly old PCs that I have lying around to revive it.
