  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

The issue is simply that manga has much better to offer than the standard shonen fare

And western comics have better to offer than superheroes.

(Imagine a world where only Stan Lee ever wrote Spider-Man. Just...imagine it)

    Excelsior!

  • You can change. You can.

    *hisses*

    Excelsior!

    but...no spider-island

Are you trying to say Thor and Goku wouldn't have a great time beating each other up Juan? Because that is dangerously close to heresy right there man.

"You're the best warrior I've seen in the nine realms...except for all those other guys. they're also cool"

    "Hmm, who are these guys?!?"

and then goku went on an onslaught and attacked the whole Marvel Universe while laughing. We called it "The Goku Imperative"

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

But it is true! Why can't major comics publishers have a wider variety of titles in their main publishing?

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
DC is currently publishing stuff like Demon Knights and All-Star Western.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!

But it is true! Why can't major comics publishers have a wider variety of titles in their main publishing?

Why can't manga be anything but Dragonball Z or Pokemon?

In all seriousness, there's plenty of non-super hero comics, it's just that super hero comics are just all that non-comic fans hear about.

  • You can change. You can.

While that's true, the fact is that the market is saturated by superheroes.

Both Marvel and DC publish and have constantly published non-superhero titles (Under their Vertigo and MAX imprints, respectively), but the fact is, that after the success of movies like the Avengers, the superhero comics are selling stronger than ever and as such both companies are trying to push their licenses as far as they can go

Honestly, most of my issues with most shonen lie on the fact that I feel like I'm buying tickets to a wrestling match.

The fighting shonen supreme, Shonen Jump had published: Death Note, Rurouni Kenshin, Ichigo 100%, To-Love-Ru, Sket-Dance, Toriko. All in the main imprint, I am not saying Comics publisher don't do non-superhero comics, I say they relegate non-superhero comics, to sub imprints, rather than the main one. Something Japanese publishing doesn't do with non-fighting shonen.

The reason behind this is simply to help acclimate people by dividing the books that are meant to be part from the company's bigger universe and the books that are meant to be separate from the DCU, plus allowing for interested parties to look for stuff they like similar to stuff they've previously read, as well as dividing comics with more adult content from comics meant for kids.

I really don't see what's wrong with any of this.

Not true of the two series I mentioned.

It is understandable, the DCU and MCU are so huge they probably need an imprint to iself, but it is still saturation nonetheless.

Manga are segmented like that already!

Two series a trend don't make. Although it is a step in the right direction, I suppose.

Oh it is, but I don't think that "Publishing more comics under the Marvel/DC name"'s the way to fix it. I think that the idea behind inhouse imprint tackling different genres is good and very helpful. What Marvel and DC should do is simply boost the signal and widen their catalogue through these imprints, in my opinion.

As for Demon Knights and ASW, while they are by no means superhero comics, they are part of the DCU. ASW is even part of the latest Court of Owls event and Demon Knights features Vandal Savage. That is not to say that they are necessarily superhero comics because of this, but simply that this also is a viable solution (To add variety to the existing established universes)
