The general new media thread for webtacular internet stuff.

So, since the video games thread derailed briefly into a discussion about various web videos, I thought it might be good to have a thread here for that thing.

Anyway, I've been looking at the Nostalgia Critic's stuff for the past couple of years, and it really has shown a very clear trend of improvement. The whole "angry reviewer yells at stuff" shtick was getting old rather quickly, and in more recent videos he's been relying a lot more on genuine wit than on being loud.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

I've quickly grown tired of his skits. The Conan episodes are particularly bad, because apart from the beginning and ending of the two-parter, he doesn't actually make any commentary on the movie -- he just throws jokes at low-hanging fruit and pretty uncleverly at that. Some episodes are better than others and some are even pretty damn good, but the Nostalgia Critic lacks consistency.

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

Honestly I think NC has become worse than a lot of his imitators (and his imitators are pretty darn bad) His entire shtick has very little room for growth as comedy and he tends to go for dull, obvious jokes. His Star Trek reviews were all just things other people have been saying about the Star Trek films for years.

  • You can change. You can.

I think I've said before (And obviously, I'll say it again) that I like Doug Walker's work much more than his work as any of his personas.
