the "things it took you way too long to figure out" thread

"Why does gas seem to pump slower when it's cheaper?"

When you pump, you're not watching the number of gallons, you're watching the dollar amount. So gas that costs $3.58/gallon takes longer to reach $20.00 than gas that costs $3.89/gallon because you're pumping more gas.

The fact that I even needed to reason through that one made me feel stupid in retrospect.

I can't actually remember the last time I was getting $X of gas instead of just filling the tank.

I don't have a job (though not for lack of trying >_<) so Mother usually gives me $20 once or twice a week so I can get to school and back...

  • Dropping 20 pages of emo poetry in the gal's backpack does not, in fact, make her understand your feeble feelings.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

Ballsy and stupid, like the angsty teenager version of a Rambo sequel. Respectable effort.

I've done a bunch of stupid stuff, but not in a "it took me way too long to figure that out" kind of way. Or perhaps I have, at least on a more macro scale. When I got out of highschool, I was led to believe that I should pursue things for the economic strength and security they could bring. This isn't a bad point, but I spent a couple of floundering years at university being miserable and getting nowhere, while the self-propelled, private studies I have actual interest in have paid some really great dividends in terms of intellectual empowerment and general understanding.

Basically, I wasted years of my life doing stuff I really didn't have to do along with thousands of dollars in university fees. Studying swordsmanship, music and game design under my own complete agency have been much, much better in terms of actually acquiring knowledge and perspective, and together they contribute to knowledge in other areas.

A Mind You Do NOT Want To Read

Despite having watched Fairly OddParents for several years now, it was only one year ago that I finally realised Trixie Tang is meant to be of Asian descent...

  • INUH's avatar is Mikado from Durarara. How the HELL DID I NOT NOTICE THIS UNTIL NOW!?

  • We Played Some Open Chords and Rejoiced, For the Earth Had Circled the Sun Yet Another Year

I guessed that his avatar was a Diarrhea!! (leaving that autocorrect as is because I'm easily amused) character, but having never watched the show I had no idea who until now.

Well, okay, yeah, I admit I didn't know which Durarara it was other than "one of the main ones".
