The whole "special snowflake" concept
It seems to strike a special nerve with people on 4chan, almost as much as the word "furry" does.

There's a lot that touches a nerve with 4chan, from what I've seen.
Pet theory: what links up 4chan's hatred of hipsters, weeaboos, furries, otherkin, self-diagnosed aspies, betas and the like is the notion that the bad apples within these groups use a subculture or a life-attitude as a crutch to do nothing about all their personal flaws, or even invert them into positive traits, summarized as 'special snowflake syndrome'. Most of the hatred for lack of self-improvement is probably projection of one's self-loathing.
I think it's a manifestation of disdain for the kind of people who are really desperate to be "different," so they create these subcultures so they can say they aren't part of the mainstream, only to congregate in such large numbers--and be sufficiently coopted by the mainstream--that they are mainstream again, and thus just insufferable. Not that they probably weren't already for being so desperate to be different.
See: hippies, goths, emo, etc.
