The point is that the medieval period was, in relative historical terms, far away from the worst period of European history and I've been pleasantly surprised in many factors of my study of the time period. There are some examples to take there and obviously some things to leave well behind.
Well, perhaps. What do you think the worst period of European history is?
Of course, silly. That's every historical period ever. :P
Personally, I'd say that it is the Thirty Years War.
The Thirty Years War is a strong contender, although that was limited to the Holy Roman Empire. On a wider scale, I think there were periods (particularly the latter centuries) where the ancient Roman Empire was pretty horrendous. The Renaissance is in many social respects a downstep from the medieval period, but ultimately somewhere in the middle, with the rampant colonialism afterwards being a fair few shades worse.
So personally, I'd place the title somewhere in the late Roman Empire or during the apex of colonialism.
I'd probably go with the period from 1870-1945. 75 years of horrible thing after horrible thing, either in Europe or perpetrated by Europeans.
Uh, wow, what did my post start?
An argument involving what times in European history were the worst, as well as how many times a day a broken clock is correct, for varying definitions of "broken".

It is indeed a myth.

Well, here's the blog, if anyone even gives a shit. It reeks of "babby's first soap box", but she's got a good head on her shoulders for the most part.
How about no.
inorite?
It's very much the kinds of things I'd already heard on other feminist blogs. (Not that that's a bad thing; I like other feminist blogs.)
