People who hate Passive-Aggressiveness

Not trying to point any fingers or anything, or call you guys out over any pointless standards you are bound to, but, grow the fuck up. Seriously.

Getting mad at passive aggressive comments is liking getting mad at a guy who sets up traps in the jungle during a war instead of grabbing a gun and trying to actively shoot you.

So, yeah, deal with it.

Deal with it? Why should I deal with an act of smugness and insincerity? And how is that really bounded to growing up?

Nevertheless I find it extremely displeasing an attitude, honesty should be a priority in human interaction.

About that, blackbird, being passive aggressive means that you are making an offense hiding in plain sight by the wording, that is smug, and insincere because it conveys a message contrary to what is said.

Well if you are going to insult somebody or be insincere, it is more logical to be passive agressive about it than it is to just throw out what you are really trying to say and risk attracting mod attention.

It may be insincere, but it's smart.

Smart? Is honesty the price to pay for smart?

Honesty is an optional thing. Being smart? Generally not.

Honesty is too underappreciated, I say.

Yes, it's something that should be used more often than not, but sometimes honesty gets you in trouble when used in the wrong context, and since "truth hurts" a lot of people, generally it's nearly impossible to be honest to them.

Didn't GMH comment on this thread? I was looking for his quote.
  • Maybe the fact that you're conversations through the metaphor of a war is part of the problem? We have nothing to win or lose on here, so I see no point to being a jackass.
  • Hold on, why are you comparing a conversation to a battlefield? Generally, people who dislike passive-aggressiveness in conversation also dislike overt rudeness in one. The idea is to have a calm, polite, and (hopefully) friendly exchange of opinions, not to go 'LOL U SUCK' and stomp on their faces, or try to drag someone into a fight with veiled insults and sort-of-but-not-quite-behind-their-back bitchery.
