  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

...I wonder. If, in theory, Vorpy made another account and we all knew 100% it was her, but she never explicitly stated that it was her, would the mods have to ban her for ban evading?

I honestly don't think they would. I mean, the purpose of a ban is to stop the behaviour that was causing a problem, right? But I don't think Vorpy would want to harm the forum, so as long as she didn't muck up, I don't see why they'd ban her.

Still, I'd imagine they'd have to ban her immediately for any stuff which might be ignorable for another person.

  • I sometimes wonder if Chagen is Anonymous. It'd actually explain a lot, really.

I doubt it.  ED has a whole page on him and his antics elsewhere.  Apparently he's rarely bothered to even change his name across his various drama haunts.

    You can change. You can.

Oh, I'm not saying that he seriously was Anonymous. It's really unlikely. But, you know, when you sit down and start speculating "Why", it's hardly that unfeasible. At least, in comparison to "Our deserved punishment for all the sins we have comitted"

You speak as though Chagen was the Scourge of God.

He was merely a Chaos champion is all.

  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!

^Please, he didn't have the charisma to be a Champion. He was a mewling cultist at best.

Bullshit. We all know what you, INUH and Everest did that night. Trust me, you three deserve Chagen's company. >:[

  • Alright, I'll use my maturity points for the day and say we could probably do without the gravedancing.

Back to your regularly scheduled shitposting bee.

  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human

I remember Metalhead467 as one of the KHSAS participants.  Used an avatar featuring a loli with a boat on her head, or something, and made a point of it.  Also created the sockpuppet Metalhead468.

  • I feel bad. I'm pretty much the same as when I joined.

I remember the avatar, but I don't remember that sockpuppet.
  • I think you did make Metalhead476 or something though, as a KHSAS sockpuppet.

Oh yeah, I remember that now.  I used it to post as the evil twin in that thread, and I wanted to see if anyone would catch on.

Don't feel bad.  It means you have less stuff to be embarrassed about.  :P

    Loser

In the rare occasions that I look at my older posts, I tend to find them to be surprisingly wittier/more thoughtful than more recent ones.

    Abyss_Worm,

If you know that just from second-hand information, imagine what it was like for us to put up with him. The worst part was that we couldn't ignore him because he loudly made his presence known everywhere.

You might be right, but I guess I am just wary about saying that you could not ignore someone on an internet forum when you always had the option not to reply to that person. I guess what you said definitely applies to the mods' perspective though.

I wonder if Alex is really right about IJBM II being such a great place. I know less about it than a lot of other people, but I feel like it still has a ways to go in certain areas (e.g., variety of users/opinions) even if it has improved as of late.

That ended up sounding harsher than I wanted it to sound. I was not really looking to bash IJBM II and its community. People probably have good reason to disagree with me here depending on what they look for in a forum anyway.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

but I feel like it still has a ways to go in certain areas (e.g., variety of users/opinions) even if it has improved as of late.

    I definitely agree here.

^^ Any examples (if you are worried about offending anybody, then just pick on me)?

    Icalasari,

Well, for the variety of users/opinions thing I was mostly just thinking about how some discussions either end up reiterating the same sorts of things or basically involve people agreeing with each other. A more concrete example of that second trend might be how it seems like political threads are dominated by socialist/leftist views.

I suppose neither of those two patterns is really awful or anything (I definitely prefer friendly agreement to hostile disagreement for example), but I think you can only get so much value out of discussions about stuff like politics, culture, or religion if at least one of the sides tends to show up almost exclusively in so-called "strawman" form.

Plus, while linking to a blog post or news article and talking about how messed up a certain perspective is may be worthwhile, I think it can get a bit repetitive. It seems like there are tons of extreme views out there on the internet and that there is not necessarily much to say in a thread aside from pointing out and agreeing that the view in question is messed up. I realize those problems are not easy to solve or may not even be problems at all depending on your perspective on this though.

    Likes cheesecake unironically.

I have the impression that most people, of whom I noticed a change in posting style, have become worse in some way.

    And yes, this includes me.

I have to say that things like that tend to go over my head, though. It's rare that I recognize a posting style in the first place, much less a change in it.

  • Kichigai birthday!!

I think I've gotten worse over time. When in Tv Tropes I posted a lot and I've always tried to make meaningful post, now  I only do shitposts and one line replies.

At least I've gotten better at English

  • Likes cheesecake unironically.

Now that you say it... I think I've gotten even worse in English. I have no idea how that makes sense, though.

  • I'd be kind of curious what people thought of Metalhead467!Forzare back in the day. Or if people even noticed me, I don't think I actually posted that much.
For some reason the one thing I remember is that you were the first person to have quoted me in their signature. ("This forum is what a high school drama would be like if the high school was populated entirely by nerds" or something like that)

Pretty much everyone wants her back, but we can't bend the rules for that.
I've seen this a lot with regards to Vorpy and I kinda have to ask...why the fuck not? It's not like the mods are police and they have a duty to uphold the law (and even if they were, linking to tasteless Google searches isn't illegal). It's an inane little forum with some informal rules. Everybody pretty much agrees that they're sad to see Vorpy banned, but nobody actually seems to want to unban her and I don't understand why.

  • You can change. You can.

In my case, I'd simply say that

    1) Speaking for me, I'm not a big fan of Vorpy, although she is less obnoxious than the other guys we've permabanned. But that's not much of a compliment, if I'm honest

    2) It really sets a dangerous precedent (Oh hey, if you're well liked, we might forgive you breaking the rules)

  • a little muffled

The argument is that it sets a bad precedent considering the severity of what she was banned for, and while that's far less important on a small forum than a big one, it still means something.

  • if u do convins fashist akwaint hiz faec w pavment neway jus 2 b sur

  • You can change. You can.

Yeah, I wouldn't actively oppose Vorpy coming back, but I'm not exactly in a rush for it to happen.

  • Honestly, I'm not either.

I've just been irritated in the past when some mods (or at least Everest) have said they wish they hadn't had to ban Vorpy, as if it was something they needed to do instead of something they chose do.

  • You can change. You can.

I think it's important to understand that in that case, choice didn't play much of a role. You either don't ban her and pretend that it was an small slip up, which, again, sets a very dangerous precedent or ban her and procede with the rules you've written.

It seems dishonest to me to claim that we should act just according to how we like people when administrating a forum. Sure, it's an small forum, but let's face it, if you do something wrong, you do something wrong and retribution should happen.

  • I get that, but the thing is, there are other options besides just "indefinite ban" and "do nothing".

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
It's like this: we wish she hadn't done that, but we don't feel that that "we like her" justifies not banning, especially for this offense.

Thats how I think of it anyway. Other mods might disagree.
