I like to use this trope alot, so I'm kinda annoyed at how people seem to have a dislike for it.
On the other hand, I use it differently--I have character use their native language for complex words, and they don't always do it--it's really more for them to flaunt their nationality.
Such as in Hellfire Catharsis--this is a conversation between Marx (The Rival, German), and Enselm (The Hero, French):
"You sure like using German alot."
"Of course! I must always flaunt my German heritage!"
"Strange. I always thought us Euros didn't like that flag-waving stuff. You sure are proud of how your arrière grand-père was shoveling dead jews into furnaces."
"S-Shut up, you Französichjungen!"
...Yeah.
So, do any of you have a hate-on for this trope or do you find it acceptable in moderate amounts?
