So Troll Freak finally says that they're gonna give a Ground-type Pokemon Mold Breaker. And you know who it turned out to be? Excadrill.
Now I know what you're thinking. "Excadrill? Why are you complaining? Isn't he absurdly broken?"
The thing is, Mold Breaker Excadrill sounds good on paper but once you dig deeper, you find that it loses its niche. See, Excadrill relied on his ability to become Uber, and if you replace that with Mold Breaker he is outsped by threats like Reshiram and Rayquaza. In short, DW Excadrill sucks.
Meanwhile, Garchomp gets Rough Skin. >_<
Comments
Oh no. A Pokemon stops being so useful in pre-arranged tiers that very few people actually give a fuck about. Whatever shall I do.
You could not read threads about it?
>115,833
>very few
There were plenty of things the thread could have been about. I kind of expected it to be a more meta-type thread about Eelektross.
I'm pretty sure Excadrill will still have Sand Rush/Sand Force anyway.
^ Comparing it to the number of people who play even just Chinese MMO's, that really is very few. And I wonder how many of those are alts and such.
That isn't the point. Excadrill will still be broken, Mold Breaker or no Mold Breaker. I was just complaining about the lack of Mold Breaker users who can abuse a STAB Earthquake.
And an in-character Eelektross would hate Mold Breaker Ground-types.
Why are you complaining about this just now? We've known Excadrill's hidden ability would be mold breaker the second people dug up lists of each pokemon's hidden ability and shared them online.
^ 'cus it just occurred to me now, man.
C'mon guys just one
Do you know how potentially disastrous this idea could be to the metagame? Mold Breaker sweepers fill a very select niche in Pokemon! Introducing a MB user with a STAB that is all too often blocked fully would fuck up everything! This is just a Trollfreak opportunity waiting to happen!
Well, pokemon metagame is one of those particular metagames I don't give a fuck about so.
vandro (and Nova, for that matter), I will state this once again.
If you do not wish to post in a thread on a topic that you could not give two shits about, then you are not obliged to. You don't see me posting in the Korra thread and going "lol I don't care about Korra"
Why? I like pokemon and this is a pokemon thread and I came in expecting something else. I was disappointed. When you get to read the korra thread you know what to expect.
Well it still comes off as rude to me. I'm trying to have an actual discussion on a Mold Breaker user that can really abuse the ability and its effects on the metagame at large and you're just stating your apathy towards the metagame. This contributes nothing, and like I said kind of comes off as rude.
^While people bitching about the metagame existing in a discussion about it is annoying as fuck, why do you need to talk about it across 3 different topics?
Point taken.
The thing is, I don't think Nintendo cares about the metagame all that much. I mean, despite the existence of robust multiplayer, Pokemon's design is very much focused on the single player experience, and despite the number of Smogon members being huge, it amounts to a rounding error relative to the number of people who play the games.
Erm, see the above post.
And this isn't about whether or not most Pokemon fans give two shits about Smogon. It is obvious that the average casual consumer (like you, Nova, and vandro) does not care about Smogon at all. And that's OK, because Smogon isn't for everyone. But, like I said, we are not discussing this. We are discussing a hypothetical Pokemon and its effects on the metagame, and if you do not wish to participate you are free not to.
Hey, if a ground type has Mold Breaker, doesn't that mean it can ignore Levitate?
No wonder Eelektross is upset.
Eelektross,
Does this mean that Excadrill is going to be used in OU again with that ability?
Anyway, I feel like the fact that Stealth Rock is now a move tutor move pretty much backs up what INUH was saying about Game Freak not really thinking too much about competitive stuff.
That is not to say that people who like competitive battling are somehow liking Pokemon the "wrong way" or something. There are plenty of ways to enjoy the games, regardless of how a supposedly targeted demographic plays them. I think the real silliness tends to arise when people start acting like there is a right way and a wrong way to play games like Pokemon, but that does not really seem to be an issue here.
GameFreak clearly cares about the meta to some degree; see VGC. Of course, Stealth Rock is terrible in doubles so.
Mold Breaker Excadrill is unlikely to be especially good, and it's unlikely that an "Excadrill is legal in OU as long as it's not using Sand Rush" clause will be implented. There's talk of retesting Excadrill for the new meta though.
lol, maybe when base 100 speeds lose dominance Excadrill will have its day.
OK, so here's a hypothetical lineup:
Whatever
Mold Breaker
Ground
??? HP/105-130 ATK/??? DEF/???SP. ATK/??? SP. DEF/100+ speed
All stats besides Attack and Speed do not matter. The hypothetical abuser would need to have above-average ATK and at least 100 Spd to cope with the current metagame. While Earthquake is obviously the crux of this set, its movepool could have coverage options like Thunderpunch (for fliers) and setup moves like Swords Dance. I use mono-Ground here, but you can also think of other good matchups. Dragon/Ground gives Hypothetical Pokemon another godly STAB to work with. Rock/Ground, while shit defensively, destroys all non-natural Edgequake resistors. Fighting/Ground is redundant offensively, but it gives Hypotheticalmon switch-in opportunities paralleled only by Magic Guard users.
In which case, wow, BW introduced a LOT of strong, fast Pokemon
Yes, that's the point of most Unova Pokemon. High stats, low movepools (an exception is Hydreigon, but he's a pseudo-legendary)
However, this build is built around the standards of the current B/W metagame.
(Am I the only one who's glad that we're having an actual discussion now, instead of people saying "lololol no-one cares" and dead air?)
Saying stuff like that practically invites those kinda of comments man.
Yes, point. I just found it kind of dickish.
But nevermind, let's drop it. Best not to dwell on that.
But you brought it up again.
It's going to start happening man.
