Today was the FOURTH time in THREE days it dropped the wifi connection and then wouldn't recognize the router until I restarted it (the router. Restarting the laptop did shit). I know it isn't my adapter as Ubuntu still connects with no issues. Restarting the laptop does nothing. Disabling firewalls does nothing. Updating drivers does nothing
All I know is that the problem started promptly after I had to shut down my laptop when it froze up and wouldn't respond
I've been reduced to spamming an IT forum so somebody will listen to me. I've been trying to install Gnome on Ubuntu so I can go through Windows and delete things that refuse to be deleted (such as Norton which somehow reinstalled itself). Since Google doesn't have answers and nobody is helping me, I may end up going in unguided and deleting random system files until something works just because I am desperate

Alright, all I can figure out is that something was corrupted. Have you tried removing the wifi network from the network list on windows and adding it back in.
Yes I have
Right now the nuclear option, backup everything and re-install windows, is looking like the best fix. There might be other fixes for it though, just give me some time to figure out what could have been corrupted and causing the issues.
Have sorta the same problem(random crashes, screen stays black while rebooting so I have to let the battery run dry). Will re-install Windows once I actually have some time for it.
I still blame gremlins. But yeah, should have it looked into professionally.
I know my Toshiba laptop has a recovery partition. If yours does, you should either be able to burn to a dvd through a Toshiba provided utility or use another to restart from factory state straight off of it.
Speaking of overheating... my computer is overheating, I guess.
I just bought a cooling pad and it seems to be helping, but who knows?
I was in church today, kneeling, and realized that it would actually be a literally good idea for me to work on my laptop on a low table and kneel on the ground. Would be better for my posture.
So now Windows 7 threw out two Bluescreens within an hour
Now the question has become: How do I access my Windows 7 partition from Ubuntu so I can evacuate my files before things go critical?
This page should help https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MountingWindowsPartitions
^ I looked at that
I'm the best in the family at computers and it still confuses me quite a bit (partly how to back up fstab - I can't find it searching the folders in Ubuntu, and I am pretty newbish when it comes to terminals)
Alright, the file that needs to be backed up is in the etc folder at the root directory of the computer. In windows terms it would be found at c:\etc\fstab The terminal stuff I can understand being a pain in the ass.
I wasn't able to access the stuff
However, Windows 7 was stable enough in Safe Mode (or I got lucky) to allow me to backup stuff. Thankfully, most of my stuff was already backed up on my old ipod, so that saved time
Now, how to restore Windows 7...
I need to back up my shit.
I still need to remove all this bloatware (I can't recall how I did it the first time), but my laptop is now functional
^You can try downloading the PC Decrapifier.
Downloaded and used
I like that program
