I feel silly for making this thread, but God. I have never raged this hard at a fictional character before in my life. Oh sure, I've found certain characters annoying and worthy of contempt, but Yukiteru takes the cake.
People often hate on Shinji Ikari for being a whiner, but at least Shinji's actions are perfectly reasonable given the situations he's forced into. By contrast, nearly everything wrong in Yuki's life is self-inflicted. The only thing he really has any excuse to bitch about is his role in the Survival Game. Even then, things might be a lot easier for him if he weren't such a poor decision-maker. He stays with Yuno despite the fact that she's proven herself to be a homicidal sociopath on multiple occasions--one who's willing to drug and kidnap him and murder his friends if it means sustaining their relationship. At first he only stays with her for his own protection, which is good, considering he has multiple people out to murder him. It's when he actually starts falling in love with her that it goes into wall-banger territory.
He is the epitome of self-entitlement. He kills his friends one by one for "betraying" him, only in his case "betrayal" means telling him something he doesn't want to hear and trying to force him to acknowledge that Yuno is crazy which he should be well aware of by now. He expects everyone to support him in everything he does and completely loses his shit and starts crying about how no one sides with him when his friends have the audacity to protect an innocent woman from his attempt to kill her. I mean, he even vilified Akise for fighting Yuno in self-defense.
The anime isn't finished and I haven't read the manga but I don't expect him to improve at all. If anything I expect him to get much worse. He exceeds my expectations each and every time.

Yes, being dragged into a game where people for no reason are trying to kill him, sticking with the only person he knows for certain will keep him alive after he's been manipulated and betrayed by numerous other people, and snapping after his mother dies and father is killer right in front of him. Nevermind the fact that the one adult he was counting on betrayed him. Never mind he's just a kid. Yeah, no reason whatsoever for him to snap and start acting selfishly. It's all self-inflicted Mmm-hmmm.
Good god, now I'm really glad I don't engage with the Mirai Nikki fandom.
What the fuck, Malkavian, he is a bad character! all Xavier has said is true.
I don't believe it's as self inflicted as AXB said. He's gotten some fucked up trust issues over the course of the series, but that doesn't necessary make it all justified.
He has his reasons for acting like a git, as stupid as they are.
Don't get me wrong, I'm always the first to defend characters for reacting realistically to stimuli. It's why I don't dislike Shinji Ikari at all. It's the specific way Yuki is handled that bugs me.
I honestly have a hard time imagining most people reacting to his situation in the way he does. I suppose Stockholm syndrome could explain his feelings for Yuno.
My main issue with him is that he will forgive anyone who treats him with any semblance of kindness, no matter what horrible things they've done to him. For example, his father killing his mother? He immediately forgives the guy and decides they can be a family again after he buys him a telescope.
I don't think it's just Stockholm Syndrome. I mean the dude did try to shake her off after the kidnapping, and I think as the show grows (and Yukki grows steadily crazier) he grows to genuinely love her.
As for the telescope thing, it's a denialist coping mechanism. He's been alone all his life. Even his relatively good mom is always working and doesn't push when she shoud. He really wants that picket fence family where he and his parents and Yuno go out and look at the stars.
I'm not trying to say he's a moral person by any means. In fact, his character arc is intentionally him becoming worse and worse out emotional desperation, but his actions do make sense.
Honestly, my big issue is how often he would rebuke Yuno's (admittedly paranoid) advice only for it to bite him in the ass.
"Yukki I don't think we should trust this cult leader."
"She insane Yukki. Run away."
"I'll totally trust this creepy cult leader over the woman who's save my life twice before!"
Incidentally, I feel he trusts in Yuno a bit too much for his own good. He believes all her lies and ends up turning against the people whose love for him wasn't nearly as destructive as hers.
Upon further reflection, my problem isn't with Yukiteru himself. It's the way the series as a whole tries to portray a horrendously abusive relationship in a positive light. No matter what Yuno does, Yuki will always see her as the one who would never betray him. He'll always go back to her and he will kill anyone who stands against her or attempts to come between them.
I just feel I would have liked the series better if it portrayed their relationship for what it is, rather than idealizing it and giving the couple their HAPPI ENDO. *shrug*

Not to mention fans who claim they want to date someone like Yuno. Uh no you don't.

Oh no what did I dooooooooooo D;
Pfft. Mai hazubando Akise will put her right in her place.
Oh I'm sorry, I couldn't hear that over his head getting cut off by Yuno.
I'll just throw this out there. Shin Megami Tensei games do the whole "innocuous everyday tech has magic powers" bit far better than Mirai Nikki. Just saying.
The Future Diaries are the least interesting bit of Mirai Nikki. Not to say they're bad, but I'm much more interested in Mirai Nikki as a vehicle for introducing various characters most of which are varying degrees of fucked-up.
Which I guess is why I never liked Yukki's school friends as characters. They were all too... normal.
But they aren't even interesting fucked up. Yuno is a paint by numbers yandere if there ever was one. The other diary holders are pretty meh, but I'll grant that Meinene and the other diary couple were entertaining enough.
I disagree that she's paint by the numbers. There are a number of things even before the huge reveal that make her pretty interesting, partially since the show is as much a romance series as it is a horror series.
And I'd say a number of them are genuinely interesting. Tsubaki, sixth and seventh, fourth (I'm bad at names okay) and ninth in particular were always engaging characters.
Something being a bad idea IRL does not in any way prevent people from wanting it. Hopefully, it'd prevent people from actually trying to get it to happen, but...
