  • Sonic?

If that the game for furrys or something.
  • You can change. You can.
^^ The idea is basically that while speed is fine and dandy, it won't win you the game.

I think that's one of the few things I like from the series, actually.
  • No rainbow star
ITT: People forget that Sonic was originally made to appeal from children, and obviously would have glaring holes in it that makes it seem bad to older people

Anyways, I loved Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 :D

In fact, the only Sonic game I've played and hated is Secret Rings (Remember, this is out of the ones I have PLAYED. I wok't play '06 unless I feel like punishing myself)

So was Mario, Metroid, Zelda and so on

that does not stop them from being amazing franchises that even older people can enjoy.

    And it''s "to" appeal.
  • Thing is the Furry thing alone doesnt explain it. Theres literally dozens of other game franchises with athropormorphic characters, many of whom never sank to the same level of suck.

"I had a love hate relationship with the Sonic games, especially the Sega Genesis Trilogy, because of how counter intuitive the game is. The game punishes you for using its one gimmick: speed speed speed."

Incidentally, I did feel that Ninja Gaiden worked better as a speed-based platformer since the game actively encouraged you to keep moving and punished you for staying still.

It's a mix of various factors, really. I mean the franchise is everywhere, it's well known, it has a nostalgia factor, it appeals to kids quite easily, etc etc
  • $80+ per session
Wow, this thread has a lot of stupid.
  • $80+ per session
From both sides, might I add
  • edited 2011-10-16 13:23:13

Both? I can spot three sides: Sonic wasn't ever good after S3&K, Sonic wasn't ever good, and Sonic is still good.

On a side note, this is why I revile "People who" threads.

  • Four: Sonic has had ups and downs, but has never been nearly as bad as people like to pretend despite recurring weak points and is currently on an up.

I don't like the fact I've been implied to be a retarded masochistic man-furry to continue liking Sonic games. I mean seriously guys, really? Maybe I shouldn't have set you people to a higher standard, you're not different than any other forum board on the internet.

I can see why Komodin left.
  • That was Clocky we're talking about

    She is never serious
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
    I revile "People who" threads.
  • Yes, never again.

    Kichigai birthday!!
Adventures 1 was good. Never played 2.

Colours was good too, and I'm looking forward more to Generations than to the new Zelda (Stupid Motion Plus)

I'm more of a Mario kid,but I appreciate Sonic games and judging a game based on the worst elements of its fandom is pretty silly.

    So I'm with you Ninjaclown
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
The only Sonic games I've ever played are 1 (the first game I ever played) and Heroes.

    I actually enjoyed Heroes.
  • I just don't think any of the games are very fun, has nothing to do with furries or anything... >.>

  • Kichigai birthday!!
    Awesome Possum is better anyway
  • This kind of fan hating has been a huge recurring problem with users and generally has made me afraid to talk about the media I like in case I'm going to be judged as "wrong". But really, it's the haters as well who care too much what other people think.
  • I guess we can't let it bother us too much. I just can't handle so much stupid in one day.
  • You can change. You can.
I like how none of you try to actually defend the series and just call anyone who expressed dislike and malcontent stupid right away.

I admit the furry accusations were unnecessary and I would even argue that the games were not particularly shitty (Hell, the only game in the Sonic franchise I've enjoyed was Shadow The Hedgehog and it's a game that seems to be reviled by everyone) but it doesn't mean you get to dismiss everyone's dislike of the franchise with "They're fan-hating" or "This is why I revile this kind of thread".

You're not making yourself look good,  your argument clear and all you're really doing is engaging in persecution complex shenanigans.

"but it doesn't mean you get to dismiss everyone's dislike of the franchise with "They're fan-hating" or "This is why I revile this kind of thread"."

Did we say that? I know I for one did acknowledge a legitimate reason to dislike the series by pointing out a game I felt did its gimmick better. My attacking the fan hating does not have to do so much with the main topic as it does the fact that it is perfectly possible to explain why someone dislikes something without having to resort to that, and engaging in ad hominem is counterproductive to a good argument.

And when I say I revile "people who" threads, it's based on a topic I have constantly complained about in the old IJBM, namely that there is absolutely no reason to use those words when you can phrase the topic in terms of the issue or behaviour rather than as an ad hominem.

  • You can change. You can.
Guh, I wrote that after waking up, so forgive the crankiness. >_<

Not like that's not my position, but I'd say the problem is not as prevalent as people make it look like. But I just have to cringe when there are posts like this or this. Not to mention that most of the blanket statements were obviously fascetious.

Not to mention there was barely as much fanhating as people are making it to look like. If anything, I'd say that the worst insult thrown out there was that sonic fans keep buying shit games.
  • "Not to mention that most of the blanket statements were obviously fascetious."

Probably, but with Poe's Law, it's hard to tell sometimes. Remember that "We are the 53%" image?

"If anything, I'd say that the worst insult thrown out there was that sonic fans keep buying shit games."

Though I still do wonder in that case why haters care so much about what other people think.

Probably, but with Poe's Law, it's hard to tell sometimes.

It probably helps that we all know each other and what we would say seriously and what we would joke about. In most cases, anyway.

Though I still do wonder in that case why haters care so much about what other people think.

Because there could be amazing sonic games out there and the output could be a lot better if people didn't reinfoce shitty games out of loyalty towards the franchise.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
IJBM: Sonic threads always involve lots of drama.

Personally I still dig Sonic himself and would love good games of him, but those seem to be lacking and people who buy them frustrate me for the same reason people who saw the Expendables and Sucker Punch in theaters did.
  • If that don't work, use more gun.
"When was the last time Sonic Team made a good game? All the good Sega
stuff like Bayonetta and Skies of Arcadia has been by other people."

Talk to the fanbase about Sonic Colors.  It's generally agreed that's a good game.  And it was made by Sonic Team.

"Honestly the continuing popularity of Sonic is frankly baffling. The
last good sonic game was HOW long ago? You know what, let's pick Sonic 3
+ K as the last "good" sonic game (God knows it's better than anything
since). How's this series still got so many active fans. And I don't
mean people with good memories of Sonic, people still active fan of this
franchise. How many times do you get served shit before you learn your
    lesson?"

It's called differing tastes.  Not all people think the various games are shitty.  And for the record, I do not like all the Sonic games out there.

Also, the furry comments.  Really guys?  REALLY!?
