My Little Pony.

If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
Here we go, a thread where we can express annoyance at this show.

  • It has way too much hype for having such a boring premise and awkward presentation.

    There's my two cents.

It's certainly a good kid's show, but that's exactly what it feels like: a kid's show, unlike the great kid's shows of the past, which don't feel like kid's shows at all.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
My feelings on it basically boil down to a combination of those two posts.

    >kid's show

    -AHEM-

    >Family show

    Fixed.
  • Isn't "family show" just a phrase used to make children's shows seem more appealing to a wider demographic?
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
MLP isn't a family show. Wizards of Waverly Palace is a family show.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
It's meant to say that it's a show that's enjoyable to adults who sit to watch it with them, too.

Well, it can. But it's not a family show. It's designed to appeal to kids.

Family used to mean it has elements for everyone of any age, like Pixar movies have. Nowadays the definition has been nerfed to mean it's suitable for your kids at least. You could call iCarly a family show because while lots of kids watch it, it does have seriously dark humour at times.

This, really. I mean, I remember liking the DCAU because it felt mature and interesting as well as a fresh take on characters I liked...

Also, there's nothing inherently wrong with a kid's show, so I don't see why did TMA correct that as if it somehow meant that the show's quality was insulted by it.

    FIRE ZE LARUNFAUST!

I invoke Death of the Author. Her show doesn't convey that idea, nor does the merchandise.

    What Vorpy said.

She's totally avoiding the question there.

    Also what Vorpy said.

So by that logic, Spongebob is a family show?

    Woah, hella mega super ninja'd.

    Also, what Vorpy said.

Authorial intent does not matter, only the execution of the premise. The premise failed to invoke this.

It's not, I corrected it as a joke. Although it really is intended to be a family show by Lady Faust.

"The premise failed to invoke this"

    >premise

    ?

Execution is what you should judge this by, really. That said, just how far did you watch? It becomes thoroughly less kids-show-ish after a few episodes.

    See my above post.

Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
The premise failed to invoke this.

I've watched up to episode seven.

    If I say something like

"GLENN MAGUS HARVEY SUCKS AND HIS SUBORUM SUCKS BALLS"

In a jokey fashion, would you automatically understand that?

I really, really love how fans of the show describe it as "The best show ever!" (direct quote), then whip out the Subjectivity card when someone criticizes it.

I watched the one with the manticore and the sea serpent. With the nightmare moon. That's about it before Gelzo banned me from his stream.

    000
How do you respond to that, though?

    superninja'd.

^^ This. You like the show for a reason, so say so. We're not dismissing your arguements with a single word.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I would say that, while it's valid to say that the show didn't really sell itself that way for you, saying that it objectively fails to do so overall isn't valid, as one would be forced to conclude that all the adult male fans are lying about liking it or something.

Holy fuck I was ninja'd seven times. Stupid slow internet.

...Forzare likes the ponies? /I'm forgetful...

    ^ Agreed.

I don't think it fills the family show requirements, though. Mostly because MLP is still based around a toy merchadise franchise.

I don't think it's the best show ever.  It has it's flaws.  It's certainly not for everyone.

But when a show like this has such a strong following in older/male demographics, I'm not sure how much you can really say it failed at creating a show that can be enjoyed by people other than little girls.

    HOLY FUCK NINJAS

    ^^Yes, i like the ponies

MLP is by far one of the best shows that have been release in America in the past 2 years. It really has no standard to be measured against because mostly all the other shows fall short in the animation and enjoyability department.
  • I was only mildly interested until Weird Al Yankovic recommended it.
