    My WMG for Taming of the Shrew: Petruchio is not trying to break Kate, he's trying to put on a show for all the other people who thinks he's trying to break Kate.

    The scene near the end where she's finally "broken" is her finally realizing this and going along with it. The speech at the end is at least half joking.
