  It's not that difficult, actually.  Though it is kind of confusing at first, yeah.  Princess Maker (which Slave Maker is a clone of) isn't really the most newbie-friendly game.  Though after you play it for a little bit you'll understand it.

  The game mechanics are actually pretty good.  Obviously, don't play it if anything in it offends you (though you can turn off some of the more extreme types of content), but it actually is pretty fun.
