    It's international. It's not gonna look like English, Bob, but on the plus side, if you ever see an IPA transcription of something in Russian or Vietnamese or Sanskrit or some other language you know nothing about, you can come reasonably close to pronouncing it right.

    I learned IPA, or at least enough of it to get English words, about a year ago. It didn't take long to forget much of it.
